This strikes me as being reasonable and I'm actually considering trying to get tickets.

Cost of the event is reasonable. On the negative side, there are no beers list that are must have for me.

My price break down of the $50 ticket price

    Ticket pricing includes:
    • Entrance to Barrel Massacre 2017 -$0
    • Barrel Massacre 2017 glass- $12
    • Barrel Massacre 2017 tote bag- $5
    • Live music performances- $10
    • Drink card to be used for 1 (one) 5oz- $7
    • Guarantee to purchase specified allotment of each- $0

That's $34. Add in cost to hire other staff and that's a fair price.

The drink card is for one pour of each of the 7 BA drafts available -- so IMO very reasonable, approaching great value.

Definitely somewhat disappointed that none of the BA bottles available are Hunter variants, but I'd guess that a few will be making appearances on draft. Also very happy that two fruited sours will be available to go with the traditional lineup of stouts. Looks like I'll be going again this year after last year's hard pass. Also good to see that evidently last year's push back was felt / heard on the insulting DD tickets.

This is around the time of my wife's birthday. Thinking of taking her, as she is a big fan of sours, and likes some of the BA stouts. Couple questions.

    1. I shamelessly want to know if this is the best event in the area (anywhere from north Chicago in and around) during June-July for sours and stouts. I mean, I know I am asking for your opinion, but that's fine.
    2. How crowded are these things? I mean, other than drinking...are we going to have a good time? I mean, we don't like it being so loud we can't talk to each other, or so close to everyone that you're basically falling over. I feel like this would be that way.
    3. Any idea if this event is the only way to get these bottles, or if they sell them otherwise?

The event is ticketed for only 400 people, and the brewery space is really large, with an adjacent patio area - I don't think it will be overly crowded. However, it will be noisy - the acoustics are the best in there, and live music (at least inside) will exacerbate the problem.

To my knowledge, they haven't put any of the BA bottles in distro, and only sell them at the brewery.

Wonder where they got those Vintage BA Bank bottles? Couldn't have been from the sold out event last year!

Even if they bottled exactly the right amount of bottles for # of tickets, surely not everyone purchases all 5 bottles. For couples, $200 + tickets can be a little steep. This is one of my considerations, since I've never even had any of their stuff before.

Most of the BA bottles have showed up for sale at the brewpub in the weeks / months following the event in prior years, but it's been pretty random and they haven't lasted long. I wouldn't count on being able to get them other than at the event if there is something that you just need to have.

And in previous years this did not sell out in 1 night, correct?

Since they just released the information, I will be frustrated if I end up needing to make a decision in just a couple hours.
