So your judging the person that is juding others that are judging beer rather than judging the beer itself???

Here's me busting your balls.......not really.

Hope you find the humor, after all I guess we are all just drinking beer right??

I lift up my glass of M-43 - cheers!!!!!!!

Plum in A2 is getting some Boxer tomorrow, I'm was told, along with their delivery of M43. I wasn't going to try to grab any, because I got several cans from the batch they released at Old Nation a few months ago and I didn't enjoy it quite as much as M-43. I figured if I'm going to buy another 4-pack, might as well make it the one I enjoy more.

That said, given the discussion about variance and what not, maybe it's worth a shot just for some variety and in the interest of science.

Agreed, batch difference is real. But so is palate variance and memory bias. And if I was going to make a bet on what had a larger impact on difference in perceived taste from experience to experience, I'd be putting my money on the craziness that is the human brain and how it interfaces with our perceptual function over tiny differences in the ingredients and process of brewing which can be dialed in pretty precisely for brewers who want to invest the time and money to do it.

Of course, it's a largely academic argument, because it would be extremely difficult to quantify the differences in perception created by ingredient/process vs. palate shift/memory bias.

So what's your argument here? That people aren't being truthful with themselves about Stormy? That it really is on par, but people just won't admit it? Or is it that people just don't have palates that are as sophisticated as yours and just can't grasp the idea of Stormy being on par with the other heavyweights?

Because frankly, both are dumb arguments.

Maybe you don't understand, so I feel compelled to point out that I *wanted* Stormy to be just as good SOOOOOO bad. If it had been, I would have gone back to the store and bought a case without hesitation. I'm not interested in reputation or hype or bandwagon. I want good beer that is easy to get and not exorbitantly priced. I thought Stormy was a very good beer. I enjoyed finishing the 6-pack that I bought. And I can even understand if someone says they prefer it to the others we're talking about, since people have different taste preferences. But it isn't the same.

Most of the beer stores in East Lansing are carrying Boxer along with M-43

Of course not the same, but SIMILAR ENOUGH and very enjoyable.
To be totally discounted to the point "it doesn't belong in this thread" is what I find irritating. I enjoy them both. And also Oddsides Dirty Dank Juice, but since I found that to be a Stormy clone almost, no need to include that one in the discussion...
Have fun guys, it's been something...

Since you cut my initial post up I will include here for reference. The difference in our posts is that I gave my opinion & gave my reasons whereas you decided to go to attacking me as "what's wrong with craft now". If you look at my original post you may need work on reading comprehension as I never said that it doesn't belong in this thread, in fact I said that it is my favorite NP beer, but I don't believe it's in the same convo as M-43, Flightless & Juice is Loose because I don't think Stormy is juicy which is what I look for in a NE IPA. I feel the same way about Boxer & said what a disappointment it was to me even though other people are loving on it....that's ok it's just not my jam & they can continue to love it, it doesn't make them "what is wrong with craft beer" it makes their palate different which is why BA exists in the first place so that we can discuss what we like & don't like about certain beers.
Your arrogant attitude of Like Stormy because it's my favorite & you are wrong if you don't is what is wrong with craft now. It's fine to disagree but insulting people based on their opinions is unnecessary

You and I are about the only two here that seemed to really appreciate what NP did with Stormy. People also didn't like Grand Armory's "Wheezin' the Juice" because it wasn't hazy...fine beer nonetheless.

If you are looking for that bite on the back end, try Alpha Effect from Heavy Seas. Not a MI beer (obviously) but in distribution and worth a try.

Agreed, the smell is incredible. It gets little fanfare, but that might be because it is on shelves everywhere regularly. And as we've discussed previously, it comes in bottles (boo, no NE IPA should come in a bottle) :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder how the shelf availability might change the m43 hype.

What pleased me about Stormy was its shelf life. I had a bottle from the original batch (12/16/2016) in early February and there was not much noticeable drop in flavor, unlike most NE style IPA's.

I'm sorry that people feel differently about beers than you do. "Similar enough" is pretty much a judgement call. It's not for me, much to my disappointment. It is for you, which is great.

I'll say it again: Stormy was a very good beer. But different than what I would be looking for in a "NE Style" IPA.

So for the batch of M43 that just went around the state.. does anyone else get a pretty serious off flavor mainly on the backend? It tastes borderline belgiany and is even more prominent with this second can I'm having a few days later. Just can't believe this is the beer the way it was intended...

I have had 2 cans and haven't noticed any off flavors....All of the 4 packs I purchased were kept cold in the store and at home...

I also haven't experienced any off flavors. And mine were stored at room temperature since purchase. And the one I had tonight was better than the 2 or 3 I had last week.

I'm starting to think I just don't like this beer. Which is cool but I really wish I could pinpoint why.

Have you had Tree House or other NEIPAs?

Always hard to tamper expectations or get excited only to have it be not up to expectations....

Having had many Tree House NEIPAs I was curious to see how it would stack up...Is it Julius? No but the flavor profile is close just not in your face as Julius....So for me it measured up enough to scratch that itch....Atleast enough to get me by in times I don't have or don't want to trade for some....

Maybe it's just not suited to your palette enough or the subtle difference of the actual beer and what you thought it would be doesn't match up....

Either way I have no doubt there will be more versions coming our way for us to try...Shorts will have one coming in a month or so....

I agree with croush. I am fortunate to live very close to Old Nation and have tried each batch that has been released and they have all tasted great. Got some in the fridge and some room temp. The ones that sat room temp then to fridge then to belly still no difference in taste. No off flavors just super hazy and super juicy. I did notice that if you pour it in a glass but leave about an inch left in the can give a good swirl then pour the rest in your glass you will get more aroma and hop flavors. All just my opinion of course.
