Seems to me that distribution of Lagunitas specialty beers in Michigan can be very thin - I was looking forward to both Born Again Yesterday and Waldos but all I could get 18 hours after it hit our market was one bottle of Waldos. Not to mention that bottling dates of the beers that do hit are >1 month consistently and often >2 months

I guess I'm first of all complaining but secondarily asking others if they know why this stuff has such a hard time getting around and north of Lake Michigan from Chicago into our stores....Their One Hitter Series produces some damn good beer(so others say) at a very reasonable price point and I see people from other states commenting on these beers while I sit back and wish I had the chance - as far as I can see Born Again Yesterday din't even cross the Indiana/Michigan state line....what gives?

Not all One Hitter beers hit full distro which may explain some of them. I know the first time High Westified was released it was onle a handful of states. I also have not seen Born Again Yesterday but saw Waldo's at 3 places this week in Kzoo

From what I have been told by the bottle shops is the distributors can be slow releasing beers....I have found Lagunitas to be one that atleast here in West Michigan/Kazoo area we seem to be quite behind on when it hits the shelves....Waldos was pretty thin as far as what bottle shops were getting....The three I go to only got a case, two at the most and they were gone with in 24/48 hours....I was lucky enough to have 2 6ers held for me....Hoping Born again yesterday will hit with in the next week or so...So far nobody has seen it or heard of it coming in (personal communication bottle shop and distributor).

I'll add that Born Yesterday was also extremely hard to come by last Fall, at least around Ann Arbor.

Pretty sure Imperial has Lagunitas for the whole state and their system of allocation is getting really goofy to say the least. I carry the full line of Lagunitas and got three cases of Waldo's, while another store not too far from me that also carries the full line got shut out yet another store in the area that maybe carries two of their beers got a case. I realize total number of sales figures into it, but there is no way that third store should have gotten it.

I've been told it all comes down to how good your Imperial rep is as some are better than others at swinging allocations.

Ya I feel your pain. We don't get any of the one hitter stuff here in central WI. even though their regular lineup is everywhere. I don't get it. What did we do to piss you off Lagunitas? Please send us some Waldo, High Westified....

    Sad face

I'm in the Waterford/White Lake area. I work in Farmington Hills and this is where I got the last single from my local place 18 hours after delivery (they got 2 cases). Saw that the popular places in Royal Oak/Ferndale sold out the day of delivery. Tried two local spots and neither got any - love to hear of a place that still might have some?!?!?

Your reply sounds like fingernails on the chalk board to me - just brutal. I am not in the buisness and am just a consumer but the distribution side of things sounds like it could be just plain awful - one distributer that monopolizes the breweries and controls the market - I might be opening up a big 'ol can but this is just wrong - the whole concept of dangling specialty beers to pressure sales of common stuff.....hat's off to you local, small stores for being the middle man between distributors and consumers - not sure I could deal with that!!!

Depends on where you are, though. My local place in Cumberland, WI, got a ton of Waldo.

Born Yesterday was extremely easy to get last year. Bought it one six pack at a time and I think my wife and I went through two cases over the course of 5-6 weeks. Hoping there's as much to go around this year. Favorite beer from them last year. Waldo's was awesome as well, but too high of an ABV to make it an anytime beer.

I got lucky and found the last 2 six packs in town today. Yeah me! lol Guy told me they only got one case though, so we didn't get much up here. But at least I get to try it now.

For what ya worth one of the lansing area stores isn't even going to do Lagunitas anymore as they are tired of it.

When high westified came around it was so late and so thin I was very luxury to get one pack from one of the only stores that got it.

I did see 12 packs of citrusenisis in Kalamazoo last weekend. I was tempted to get some but I loved it two years ago and last year was a bit blah. Didn't chase Waldo's but it seems thin. Would have liked some.

That is pretty much the only recourse bottle shops have against the bs that goes on with allocations in this state. I hate to do it, but I have. I carried one breweries entire line, even brought them into the store for tastings and bought their beers from the distributor every week only to be shut out on a limited release that a shady little shop near my house that hardly sells their beers got two cases of. So I quietly stopped ordering the beers. No signs in the store, no online outbursts, no effigies were burned in the parking lot. I also sent an email to the brewery rep, but never got a reply. So I let the sales numbers drop and my customers who asked for that brewery were understanding and receptive to alternatives.

Long story short, it works. They will see the decrease in sales and step in to make things right (most of the time)....then its on to the next one.

Just bought a bottle of Waldo. Impressed that it was so cheap for a 11+% brew.

Waldos is all over Kzoo..saw it on draft a couple of places & saw it last week in 2 beer stores & 2 grocery stores

That's the thing no one has reported seeing it yet in MI. Maybe since it's frozen hops instead of wet hop they didn't keep enough to hit their entire distro? Just an uneducated guess
