I was being conversationally snarky - I can't help it. My comment was based on what I observed yesterday at 18th Street. They were releasing Zero Discipline, their NE IPA collab with Transient - $20 / 4 pack of 16 oz cans, and people were walking in and buying multiple 4-packs of it sight unseen, without even tasting it. Haze induced madness, I tell you.

And I agree with your comment - I appreciate the look of a beer in the glass, it's a part of the total package.

I hope a brewer can come on and shed some light on this Bc it's not just for looks- not knowing enough about yeast strains, using oats etc I don't want to go to far.

But for me the New England IPA is superior to traditional ones because of the flavor profiles brewers are making in them and the distinct creamier mouthfeel- usually when a beer has legit Haze it also comes with a thick creamy body...

NE ipas have considerable less malty flavors and that's something I hate in ipas like Two Hearted- Pipeworks(the malt kings) etc

Lol Haze didn't make people go- two extremely talented brewers working together on a beer did. Especially it being Drews first time doing the style - and they executed it too- the el dorado and Simcoe played well together- Hoppy with no maltz and a great body on the beer....

If you want a current example of the haze- highly recommend the Hubbard's Cave bottled on 4/20. Holy hop bomb yet still hazy and juicy. The best they've done so far...

What hops did they use on this one?

Columbus, Centennial, 7C's, and Citra (least to most used in mix according to them). They also have a new centrifuge toy to place the exact amount of particulate they want in the beer- described it as a whole new process from other HC attempts.

Thoughts on Juice Pants - Decent, good taste, a bit too carbonated. Have a bottle of Hubbard's Cave as well, going to drink tonight.

I got grape but a lot of onions. Think that's the simcoe taking control. It's good but I may give the rest a week to settle

Drew has released a couple of NE IPAs already, two or 3 by himself, and one Cigar City collab at least 5 months ago. I think this was largely Transient's name attached as many local of the Chicago area can make the hour trip to Hammond, but not the 3 hour trip to Bridgeman, MI to get actual Transient stuff.

He hasn't done anything this explicitly NE-style. I believe it's also his first double dry-hopped offering.

Zero Discipline is the real deal. I get where the white grape flavors are coming from, but it's only on the nose for me. I'm getting a ton of mango, grapefruit, and pineapple in this. It has a very soft mouth feel, and very juicy flavors - this one's a home run

Yeah I love it- prefer new hubbards cave Bc it's super Hoppy Citra.. both wins.. both better than Cats in Cradle to me

Enjoying one of those at the moment as well. It's not as soft as Zero Discipline, but I'm a huge Citra fan and it really shines through. The big Citra burn almost makes my mouth water for another sip - it's a great offering

He released Twisted Doom on 3/29, which was a DDH NE IPA and it was outstanding. Details are on Facebook.

As Great Gazoo just pointed out and was posted in this thread less than a month ago:

Some people in this thread says it is better than JiL. How much more explicit does Drew have to make it?

My mistake on the Ne style- either way- legit beer that's better most recent releases...

For me twisted Doom and Zero Discipline are both outstanding, NE style or otherwise. That's the kind of stuff I came to expect from 18th when they were only in Gary. Great to see first class stuff coming from Drew again.

Currently drinking a 4/6 Stratus and it's incredible. Now then, enjoy your Saturdays!

Twisted Doom was awesome! Zero Discipline is more of a haze bomb, but the flavors that came out of Twisted Doom were something I had yet to experience.
