Loved RBAVSS today, but I was most surprised by the Chock Full o' Nuts Speedway. Bottom feeder type of coffee but damn, did it make for a great beer. IMO, anyway. Cool story behind it with Jackie Robinson Day and all.

On draft, it was very coffee forward which I enjoyed. Tasted a bit hot on the first sips but mellowed out after room temp. Mouthfeel was medium/medium plus.

I enjoyed the cask version as well, I got more vanilla and chocolate out of it.

Phenomenal on draft, might even be a hair better than Bourbon VSS '16. Cask wasn't lighting me up as much, although it was still great in its own right.

What was the cask version straight RBAVSS? Hard to tell based on the draft description.

BAVSS'16 > rbavss for me, but just...barely. It also might not be fair since bavss already has 6 months on it whereas rbavss is fresh. I preferred draft over cask. Felt draft had that nice rye spice that played well with the coffee and chocolate. Cask, to me, felt really muted on all flavors and watered down. I got more flavors as it warmed, but draft still beat it out for me.

Cracked a bottle with the family yesterday, and if you thought draft was hot with rye....you better let the bottle sit for a bit. Hehehe. I preferred it, but I am also a bit of a rye *****.

I'm a big fan of rye and RBAVSS was heavenly. Not one of those adjunct heavy hypebeasts that's going to hammer you over the head, but the flavors melded perfectly and it was so damn smooth with very little trace of heat. I didn't get a chance to drink it side by side with BAVSS, but it's certainly in the ballpark. Pissed that I missed the sale but I'll definitely try to trade for a few bottles.

Really looking forward to trying it. Did you try Rumskull?

Yep. Also really good, and I'm not a big barleywine fan. I was surprised when it sold out before trying it, but now I'm not. It was pretty smooth, rum upfront (but not hot), with a touch of sweet and spice.

Is there a way to see what bottles are available at the brewery through the internets?

Does Alesmith pay you to try to keep them relevant? Joking of course. I'm not on here often but whenever I see a thread about Alesmith you are always on it. San Diego is a hard place to stay at the forefront of beer news

If only.....Alesmith is my Cheers so it is easy to keep track of one brewery when you are there every other day or so.

For those that haven't visited recently...BAVSS '16, rBAVSS, and old rumskull are in fact still on inside Anvil & Stave area.

Do you think rbvass will have the same tour length that bavss did? I mean I usually end up hitting alesmith when I'm down in the area regardless but it's always nice to see a new friend on tap.
