Hi, I'll be attending a conference from May 15th to the 18th and I would like to know which beers (bottles/cans) should I bring back home.

I've already looked at the posts that show the good breweries and beer stores, but I would really like to know which ones to really bring back. It can be beers from the state, but also from other states that aren't available in the East.

I would also like to have your recommendations for beer stores that would have those.

Thks in advance and don't hesitate if you have questions.

    Steph

Lupulin Blissfull Ignorance and Modist Dreamyard are two of my local favorites available in select stores now.

Well I'll recommend a can of Pig's Eye, just because.

If you've got a car, make the quick trip to Casanova Liquor in Hudson, Wisconsin to get stuff you can't get in Minnesota.

Plus, it's a damn cool store.

Also, for cans, if you want to tick off US States, you can get North Dakota by getting Fargo Brewing cans. Wisconsin you can look for New Glarus in cans, if you can get over to Hudson. Illinois, look for Destihl. Iowa - Toppling Goliath, but the cans are made in Florida, and have quality issues (get bottles, they are made in Iowa). Nebraska - go for Tallgrass Brewing in cans.

If you like barleywines, head over to Steel Toe for bottles of Lunker and Before the Dawn. If they maintain the status quo, you'll be able to try them on tap before you decide how many cases of each to bring home with you.

Should mention that while Before the Dawn is listed as a dark barelywine, it drinks just like a stout... a really good barrel aged stout.

IPAs: Surly - Todd the Axeman, Fulton - 300, Lupulin - Blissful Ignorance

Sours: Indeed Wooden Soul Series (Cherry Dust is the one currently available, I think); Fair State makes some solid ones, although I'm not sure what will be immediately available

Stouts/Barleywines: Whatever I was going to suggest has been replaced by Before the Dawn, as suggested by others above.

FYI, I'm from Canada and will be fying in, so I'll be limited in the ammount of beers I'll be able to bring back hense my post.

Is Before the Dawn available in most beer stores, like Zipps Liquors?

    Thks

If you're looking for some Minnesota staple beers, I'd say Summit EPA is a well-crafted MN classic by this point.

I'd go to Steel Toe to haul back a bottle of Before the Dawn and Lunker (assuming they still have both). Perhaps set up a trade for a bottle of Surly Darkness? BA Silhouette from Lift Bridge is another stellar beer, but you'd have to trade for it.

Isn't Tallgrass Kansas (Manhattan)? They have a nifty taproom there!

Besides Molson or Labatt, Bent Paddle's Cold Press is awesome. Also, Summit EPA, as was already suggseted. Both are available in cans for easy packing.

If you were looking for Surly BA Darkness, Merwin Liquors on Larpenteur had a few bottles on the shelf when last I was there. I think even Cub on County B still had a bottle or two as well. Non-BA, obviously have to trade. I'd like a few bottles myself...

If you wanted Fair State, they had quite a few bottles when last I was at Central Ave Liquors. They had a bunch of a decent bottles - Prairie, etc. Also, Fair State is just up the street to have some on tap!
