Crickets here, so my lazy ass did some more digging and located the chsfermentory and local 6-packs Charleston threads.

Can anyone vouch for the quality of selections of Westbrook beers at the local Total Wine?

Go to bottles or house of brews instead

I recommend Edmund's Oast brewpub. Great atmosphere, food, and beer. They have both house made beers as well as an impressive guest tap list. I believe they are opening a bottle shop this spring but not sure it will be open by May.

As for Westbrook releases, I'd recommend driving to the brewery in Mt Pleasant. It's a small but cool taproom and they typically have releases that are harder to find or don't make it into distribution.

I 2nd what others have said above. Edmund's oast is a must stop as is charleston fermemtory. I think they make the best beer in charleston in addition to westbrook. Bottles is a solid bottle shop and its closer to westbrook than total wine is (opposite sides of town).

Agree with the above. Edmund's Oast and Charles Towne Fermentory are must stops. Revelry is also doing some good stuff, and they have an awesome roof top tasting room, which is awesome when the weather is nice.

If you're going to go to Westbrook, you're best bet for a nearby bottle shop is House of Brews, which is not far from the brewery. Laura Albert's Tasteful Options on Daniel Island also tends to keep some westbrook special releases in stock longer than other typical bottle shops - they still had tequila barreled Margarita Gose on the shelf a couple of weeks ago, in addition to several others.

This probably goes without saying, but always look for canning dates, especially if you're going to one of the bigger bottle shops. They tend to let beers fossilize on the shelves.

Will chime in for Westbrook/Coast since I just came back from CHS. I found Westbrook / Coast at most bar & restaurants downtown, mostly in the form of white Thai, one claw, and kolsch. The same places didn't really have bottles and the ones they had were super pricey. On the other hand, tons of SC breweries were all over. Closed for business had a nice selection as did the Craftsman.

WB did have cans / bottles to go. If you do go be aware of their hours on weekdays. Also, remember to ask for the reserve list. Have fun!

@Slack @SC_BeerNerd Thanks fellas. Primary issue is that I fly in around 930am and need a quick en route stop to Kiawah (staying at the beach for a bit, then in Charleston) to cop some bottles/cans to tide me over while at the beach. Correct me if Im wrong, but it appears that Total Wine is my only option at that hour.

House of a thousand brews is on your way to kiawah! Total wine is in West Ashley and by smoke bbq and craft conundrum iirc.

1000 Brews in Mt. Pleasant, no? Looks like they dont open until 11am. Hoping to have my feet in the sand by then. Any other bottle shops in the area open that early?

They seem to always carry a better selection of the locals than TW. Go to the coolers in the back for some cold ones.

How is the Lagunitas Brewery in Charleston? How is the brewery that was started by the former Trillium (?) owner? Thanks - heading to Charleston this weekend and love Hazy IPA's. Will Revelry Lefty Loosey cans still be around? Thanks to all!

The brewery that was started by former Trillium brewers is Charles Towne fermentory and its great. Havent been to Lagunitas tap room yet but with all the other great local beer in charleston I would probably pass on it, especially if you are pressed for time. Lefty loosy cans should be around but Im not sure on that. I would call Revelry, bottles and total wine. House of Brews in Mt pleasant might also have them. Charles Towne Fermentory will be your best bet for NE style IPAs. Two claw is also somewhat hazy.

Lagunitas Tap Room is a good stop for a beer midday then again so is the Craftsman and even say the rooftop at Market Pavilion (just for the view). All are right downtown.

We've walked right on past Lagunitas at least a dozen times. Craftsman and Griffin are our usual stops. Also, lately we've been to Blind Tiger numerous times since they reopened.

CT Fermentory is hands down the best brewery in town for IPA/pale ale. Be sure to stop by and grab a few growlers.

Since you are coming from CHS at 9:30am the "goto" bottle shops will be closed. As you've already discovered your best bet is Bottles in Mt. Pleasant at that time.

But there is another place relatively near the airport called Kwik Stop that is open. They happen to have a decent selection especially for a convenience store and if I remember correctly they carry most of the local stuff in coolers including Revelry.
