If the variants included double barreled DL (brandy and bourbon) and Handjee and you had the ability to choose one. Which would it be?

 

Probably Handjee.

It would be a real conundrum if you tossed in a Pappy Van Winkle BADL into the mix. I'd probably go the PVW, then Handjee, then DBDL.

Okay, Double Barrel Pappy Handjee

 

My Group got one of the 23 Yr PVW Barrel aged Dark Lords in 2011. I will report it was a fantastic beer, but personally only incrementally better than the regular bourbon Variant. Though the barrels used, limited bottle count, and the fact that they only did it once definitely feed into the hype.

 

Happened once (15 Anny Party). I did choose the Pappy over BVDL that year and it was the right decision, simply for the fact that they haven't done it since. However, I will give BVDL a slight edge in the comparison.

 

Lets say your options are:

1. Handjee
2. French Vanilla Militia
3. Cherry & Bourbon
4. Double Barrel (with barrels like bourbon / brandy / congac / apple brandy / rum)
5. Mexican Chocolate Muerte (vanilla, cocoa nibs, chilis, cinnamon) in bourbon or brandy barrels.
6. PVW Bourbon
7. Earl of Temeculan 3001

Temeculon 3001? Is that the new Pipeworks collab with DL Aged in barrels formerly containing Pipeworkds BA Chai Dog?

 

I hope they make a 2 year bourbon barrel aged dark lord. Three Floyds did a 2 year barrel aged Portuguese brandy version and I really enjoyed it. The beer was still sweet but I think that was a function of the type of barrel they used. A bourbon barrel would definitely mellow that out.

 

1) Handjee, because I've never had it and I'm a vanilla *****
2) Double Barrel
3) FVM, would be 2 if I didn't get it last year
4) PVW, not that much more hyped on it than regular bourbon
5) Mexican chocolate, though it could be as high as 2. I would have to try it first, most cinnamon stouts I've had have way too much cinnamon.
6) Bourbon cherry, hopefully not super-sweet
7) a bottle of mud
8) Earl of Temeculan

Honestly just a single barrel apple brandy would be excellent.

I'd probably take double barrel over all of them. Handjee and militia duking it out for second place.

 

Why be hesitant to say it? It's your personal preference and only an idiot would argue with you over your personal preference. Many people have different ones and that's just as fine.

 

FVM was really good. I would love to do a side by side, but I have a better chance of starting for the Bulls in game 6.
