If you really do the math, and perhaps consider that a variant was indeed infected, that accounts for what, 400-1000 bottles? With a total ticket sales of close to 10k? So, at worst, there's a 1 in 10 chance that you'll end up with vintage bottles.

If its more than that, then speculation would be that this was their plan all along, and they just didn't prepare enough variants to match tickets sold. Which would be bull if true.

Serious question: What is the earliest they let people line-up for the for the event? The earliest I have ever been there is 7:00 am (I like to sleep in and enjoy my Saturday). I know a few year back they had people who lined up the night before the event and they were told to leave the grounds.

The first people usually arrive between midnight and 3am.

Right, last year they made around 8,500 bottles of variants, and then also had 2015 variants (hard to say how many as we don't know how many were purchased in 2015).

But figure around 500-1000 people end up with vintage, or one variants worth.

So I would assume with fewer types of variants, each will have a higher bottle count. So I would expect more like 200-250 Handjees per group, and about the same for FVM. And maybe 250 regular bourbon barrel aged, and 250 Ronaldo. That gets you through more than half a group sales slot with top tier variants. Only the last 100-150 people get stuck with vintage.

Also keep in mind some people will choose vintage over variants because: 1.) they think the variants left sound bad 2.) they don't know the value of variants and are hyped to get vintage Dark Lord. 3.) They see 2 bottles > 1 bottle etc...

I've seen comments elsewhere (reddit / facebook) that suggest some people will pick 2 vintage over anything but Handjee and FVM.

To me it's not looking like a variant was infected. The rumor of Handjee being infected was obviously false. I honestly feel that there were less variants made because they had a ton of regular "vintage Dark Lord" to offload.
What hasn't been discussed much, if at all really, is the "vintage" Dark Lord that will be available. Technically speaking 2016 Dark Lord is vintage and they may only be offering that. Hmmmm....

I mean it more in the sense of them creating enough variants, but an infected batch they had to dump threw a wrench in the "everyone gets a variant" thing.

And lets be honest...How many bottles of Vintage DL do people REALLY think FFF is hoarding?

I think a really good solution to this nonsense would be to have a keg of each variant on tap at bottle pickup. If you're stuck with some vintage nonsense, hey, how about a pour of a variant so you can atleast get the opportunity to taste it. This way people won't have to play tap roulette all day and try and get atleast something.

Good idea.. I might just do that instead of purchasing something new

My issue with this is that its completely shady. With as much time as FFF has to get their website set up for this event every year, you would hope that it would be checked thoroughly. I don't feel they would falsely advertise something like this just to turn around and dump a bunch of BS Dark Lord on an unsuspecting public unless something happened.

I feel that maybe BVDL wasn't infected, but maybe one of the smaller, less sought after variants.

I don't know. Again, it's FFF. Hell, they waited until a day before tickets went on sale to say that not everyone would get a variant and that variants will be first come first serve. Then they release the variants and say that the variants are being spread out across all the groups and will be first come first serve on a group by group basis.

I'm no lawyer and I'm not complaining, but hear me out. I can honestly see FFF getting sued and losing. The complaint being filed as false advertisement. When they first changed it to "Will receive a variant or two vintage Dark Lord bottles" people asked how this will be determined. FFF responded stating it will be first come first serve. At that point in time it was taken as the earlier groups get first pick and it goes from there, as it always has. Everyone here understood this. Tickets were then sold under this premise. To now change this could result in a false advertisement suit as it's no longer the originally understood FCFS.
Just saying. It is interesting...I'm going to ask my attorney brother-in-law out of curiousity.

But the site did say "*All information subject to change*" So I feel like that's the loophole in FFF favor.

Sued for what? A $180 ticket. That seems frivolous to me.

Oh I know. I'm just bringing this up to see what people thought about it on a legal type aspect. And if something like this did happen it would have to be class action. $180 is frivilous in the world of business.

Very true. Like I said, I'm no lawyer so I'm not sure how that would apply.
