I don't think it's realistic to expect that not to happen when a brewery scales up to a much larger system, because these issues seem to happen to most breweries when they scale up. You might not like it, but it seems to be the reality of scaling up. I think having beers that are still mostly great (the saisons and lagers haven't really suffered at all) be much, much more available is very much worth putting up with the growing pains.

It did not take Troegs years to consistently brew their beers on their new brewhouse (Hershey).

I recognize that it will take a few batches to 'learn' the new system but the brewers should be capable of 'dialing in' the brewing process relatively soon. Especially for a brand like HopHands which is always being brewed.

    Cheers!

I don't think Troegs was scaling up from a 6 barrel system, were they? Or brewing NE IPAs? Not a particularly apt comparison. Tired Hands has managed to brew other styles quite consistently on their new system, so I'm inclined to think that the occasional inconsistency they have is an issue with that particular style.

You say they should be able to, but the best brewers in the country don't seem to be able to. So maybe it isn't so easy to just do. It's not like every other batch is bad, either.

If a brewing company can't learn how to brew consistently using a larger system then maybe they shouldn't increase their capacity.

Plenty of commercial breweries have made changes to their breweries (expanded, opened second (and third) breweries, etc.) and they are able to produce consistent beers.

    Cheers

I'm not getting the criticism for Panna Cotta either, I think it's excellent. Mine is going to have to wait another week though because I'm on a beer hiatus until after Sunday, I'm running Broad Street this year. Any tips for those that have done it before? My first time.

Anyway, I may hit TH on the way back fromt the race.....good idea.

It took Troegs years to get Nugget Nectar back to what it was before they moved. And they had a number of issues in the first few months at the new place with bad batches. So, yeah, even Troegs had issues when they moved.

I've run it 5 times now but not running this year. I have found the first couple miles are a lot more rolling than you realize but by the time you hit that downhill stretch to City Hall going past the convention center it's just smooth sailing. It's one of my favorite races because it's quick and if you trained properly and hit your stride it's super motivating.

This year is my second, great race, if you have run as much as 8 miles recently you will be fine. The run goes very fast, enjoy the crowd and the entire scene. Best of luck, Cheers!
