Drinking all of these meh barreled aged beers that are stupid expensive is really making me appreciate well made beers of other styles. I had Dovetail's lager last weekend and thought it was phenom. It's getting to where the price on 7/10 of these beers just isn't worth it.

Dovetail lager is out of control. It's perfect.

Yeah, completely agreed. I was actually a bit let down by their other offerings but man the lager is so so good.

I seem to have a more sensitive palate than most, but I agree with this statement. I have not had nearly as many as most BAs, but I seem to hang out at the two extremes:
    • Limited releases (or 1-2 month seasonals) that are typically above average to expensive (not just BA stouts, but other styles as well)...AND
    • Inexpensive 'day drinkers': Abita Purple Haze, Leinenkugle Sunset wheat, and good European wheat beers and lagers. These all seem to run $8-12/6 pack.
I do like other things (I am a big fan of trappists, for example), but I don't seem to drink them at the same frequency as either of these. I am also extremely risk averse, so if it isn't rated very highly, I rarely buy more than a single (assuming it comes in a 4/6 pack), unless it is a limited release.

I believe it says "rye stout aged in rye whiskey barrels" on the bottle. The OG doesn't mention rye at all and definitely has lactose in it. I don't pick up on any lactose (which I'm not a fan of in stouts) in the rye version.

Actually didn't have the Dunkel but was disappointed by both the Hefe and Pilsner. Only disappointed in the sense that they weren't great. I had the lager first and was hoping they were all of that quality, IMO they are just average versions of the style.

I'm pretty sure the infection only had to do with bottles.

Their Christmas ale was awesome also. Tasted like a well made fruit cake, but much more enjoyable to consume. Not too spicy, Not too fruity, but elements of both.

Yeah. Me too. I passed. $40, and I would have considered it.

They also have rare for $85.

There's no tax, so you gotta factor that in.

This is true. I forgot what retail even was on prop.... maybe 25 or so? I drank my share of it the past couple years. Really liked 16 and was at Flo and Santos too many times having it on draft. Regardless, I'm sure people will still buy the stuff up.

I'm sure. They had vintage big John for sale yesterday, but I missed it sadly.

I heard that there was 15 prop on draft @ the Clybourn farewell party that was bad. The infection was suspected with the tanks transporting the beer to the barreling warehouse so there is a posibility of kegs being bad too.

Read a quick article on the Chicago Tribune.
