I'm not saying it has to be a huge bourbon bomb (or whatever kind of barrel it was aged in)but if there's no barrel presence like @R3ason reported then what's the point? I don't know what the cost of the beer is but if I'm paying for a BA Stout I'd like to have some barrel presence there.

I guess I'll have to grab one and see for myself. I do like more barrel flavor in a BA beer so I'm curious to see if it was worth putting it in barrels or not.

I also like a prominent (albeit balanced) barrel presence, just saying not everything is gonna be a massive in-your-face barrel-bomb. One person's claim of zero barrel-presence is no reason to assume it's literally non-existent, IMO. Hyperbole perhaps? Palate? If I see one, I will probably grab it and give it a shot for myself. Obviously if there really is no barrel at all, it does seem hard to justify the price point, I can't argue that.

Totally. I didn't get the Barrel presence in the CO Native BA Porter, but I know a lot of people did.

For the Upslope beer, it's tricky for me to classify. Was it worth it as a BA beer? Perhaps not. BUT... if not for the barrel, I know I wouldn't have enjoyed the coffee as much. So, in that vein, I definitely do taste/appreciate/get the barrel flavor, but not in the boozy, bourbon sense. If I buy another (which I'm inclined to do), I'd be knowingly paying the price of a BA beer for a really good coffee beer (to me).

Again, really curious to hear other opinions on this one!

Just to piggyback on this point, I think Big Bad Baptist is usually around 4 months and that's a great beer. A long time in barrels doesn't guarantee an awesome product, nor does a short time ensure and inferior one.

Holy smokes! Get over to Blue Moon in RiNo and get some of that Russian Imperial aged in Laphroaig barrels. Hot damn!
Unless you don't like peaty whisky, I should say... and then... you should avoid this beer like the plague.

While technically not a stout, I feel like it's fair to include BA Work From Home here, mainly because I'm finishing a bottle right now... And I really like it. I wasn't blown away when I opened it - carb was low and it seemed somewhat single note - but the more it warmed up the better it got. Maple syrup drenched waffles with cool brew coffee and a shot of whiskey? Yes fucking please! If anyone is sitting on bottles, hit me up, I want MOAR!

'17 180 Gram from Ursula fresh is pretty great. Not the most viscous, but the flavor is great. They have 2 variants which weren't on tap, but I'm looking forward opening them up

If ya'll aren't mentioning Weldwerks Medianoche right now then what are you even doing?! It's STILL on tap and world class.

I found BA Here Be Monsters to be great, I really like it. It's everything I enjoy in a BA Imp Stout: viscosity, flavor, barrel.

Regular and vanilla were both fantastic IMO, they absolutely nailed this beer and I think either would hold their own against some of the biggest hype stouts out there in a blind tasting.

To qualify that statement, I drank VR, FO, The End, and Madagascar last Friday and think Vanilla HBM would have easily been top 3 or possible tied for 2nd (FO won, VR was #2).

Missed the vanilla altogether. I could have had the wife hold the line and gone into the taproom to try it, but, you know, divorce and stuff.

Here be Monsters is an excellent offering. Thick, viscous, lots of barrel character, fudgey chocolate. Reminds me (as someone else mentioned) of 2015 Bourbon County. The Vanilla was very good on tap, hopefully the bottles taste as good as these beers did on draft. Also, BA Work From Home had a really interesting bacon-like smokiness/saltiness that was really interesting, to go along with the coffee and maple flavors.

What's with all the BA stout releases happening so late?! It's almost summer, though you wouldn't know it with the snow on the way this weekend. Perfect weather for a Twilight Rendezvous if you know what I mean  Anyone know if Here Be Monsters might make an encore appearance on draft? Would love to try it
