You can at least take comfort in the knowledge that everyone is in it together. The worst is being stuck in a terribly slow line wondering if the other gate is just pouring people in while you are stuck in the cattle pen.

 

I'm no scientist, but how will they control the "equal variants per group" if earlier groups can jump in line with later groups at any time? Will there be separate pools of bottles held over from previous groups? (If I was group A, and got there late, would my pick still come from the group A pool, and everyone else in group C pick from the group C pool?)

Seems like they are trying to do the same thing they did down at Huna this year. Start checking IDs and tickets a couple of hours before gates open and then put you in a holding pen. Once you are in the pen you cannot leave, but you can participate in bottle shares, and there appears to be porta-potties and water available. At 9 they open the gates to the main fest.

If this is what they do, it may actually work.

 

I hope they have cowboys with cattle prods to authenticate the experience of cattle being led to slaughter...

 

I was in line last year by 8 at the North and my ID was checked before I got to the gate. They gave us the wristband then put us in the pen, which sucked because you either had to use the piss fence or pee in bottles. of which I had to do both lol. felt bad for the ladies, they just squatted where they stood out of desperation.

 

I was hopeful that this year's holding pen was less of a cattle chute and more open so that one could get to the porta-potties and not need to use the piss fence. (Which I myself relied on.)

The pissing on yourself is what I mean by fiasco. I was one of the idiots who left the line to go use a port-a-potty thus adding 2 hours to the time it took me to get in.

 

In a new partnership this year, there will be a merch tent prior to the holding area entry selling Dark Lord Day© branded Depends.

 

Yeah, if they let people into this red shaded area early, but put a gate up. Then you could just wander around using bathrooms/getting taps even perhaps.



Then the only issue becomes to people create a second line inside at the internal gate?

 

This seems like a recipe for a shitshow. First come first serve but don't line up 30 minutes before your group? Should've just done it like last year.

 

saw it happen to a couple people, managed to talk security into letting a girl back in line with her boyfriend, I must have been semi sober.

the problem was so many people trying to cut in line, so legit people like you got screwed.

Am i looking at this correctly that there will be just 1 point of entry this year? I saw this map a couple of days ago and my group thinks this to be the case.....1 point of entry could be rough.

 

I assume they will have separate pools of variants....so if you have A and go in with C you are still picking from the A stack. That's a big assumption and a very logical way to do it........but it's FFF so who knows. I'm hoping there will be communication about these things this week or next....

This is similar to what they do at GABF. ID's are checked ahead of time and they put you into chutes. When the festival starts they open the flood gates one chute at a time in order of arrival time. If DLD can do the same and allow bathrooms in this holding area it should work... in theory. I thought this process worked great for GABF but I have never attended DLD before so I could be wrong.

 

As an FYI, they said the same thing last year about recommending not to line up more than 30 minutes before your group. That didn't stop people from doing it, and I think I may have been one of those, as I was Group C and wanted a Bourbon DL. Obviously this year is different with variants being spread across groups, so there is more incentive for some to line up early to try for the top tier variants.

 

Looks like you could shoot a zip line from the water tower to the roof of the brewery and beat the lines....
