Ok, so change "anyone" to "most of", and I think I'm on solid ground. And we aren't talking about just standing in line, we're saying getting in that line hours in advance. Are you that much in need of a handjee to drink for yourself that you're willing to do that?

Well, see you are just making an assumption now. It could very well be the best tasting beer you've had!

But as a general point, I've cumulatively spent $50 many times over on beers I did not end up liking. I'm sure many here have as well. I'll give any variant a shot and if it turns out less than ideal, well, add it to the long list of beers I've not liked. It will have a lot of company, certainly.

Except they changed the rules on me midway through. Originally, if I got there on time for my reservation, I was pretty sure I was getting lobster or steak. Now they're limited to a certain number per sitting, so I've got to get there early to make sure I don't get shoe soup, or at least on time. I also might have to eat two loaves of bread because they ran out of real meals.

I don't know why you're surprised that people would rather get their preferred variant, which as I said, they're paying a lot to get. It's not different than the decisions you make when you walk into a beer store, except in this case you don't have the option to pass. It's pretty obvious that a lot more people are excited to get Handjee than Scotch.

Are some people going to sell or trade it? Yeah. I'll admit there's slim chance I trade it depending on what I get, but 90-something percent chance I drink it. The secondary market value didn't stop me from drinking and enjoying my FVM last year, and it wouldn't stop me this year. Honestly, I'd probably be more likely to trade/share an FVM since I got to try it last year. I've literally had two DL variants ever, I would like a chance to try some of the other "good ones."

Well, I'd debate that "most of" aspect, but neither one of us have any way to prove it either way. We don't really know how early is needed to get Handjee, so we'll see what really happens. I'm thinking a couple hours early - I've waited longer in lines for BCBS (which I drink, for the most part), and that is without sharing. It will all be sharing time anyway, so it really isn't a big deal to me - it'll probably mean I end my DLD a bit earlier, but that isn't a huge deal to me either...I'll still have plenty of time in there. Sometimes if you have the opportunity to get something you want, you go for it.

My general point overall is that people wondering about why some are so intent are getting a certain bottle of beer should remember where we are here...a site dedicated to craft beer nerds. Yes, people really do want to get what they consider the "best" bottle. It's great for those that are more laid back about it (and trust me, I'm not as hardcore as a lot of other people I've seen lined up), but there are a lot of people out there that are willing to put in a crazy amount of effort. As long as we all have a good time and don't do shitty stuff to each other, it should be all good.

The 7 variants plus the pair of vintage bottles make a total of eight possibilities. I would love to see FFF break out 8 sided dice and make each person roll for their variant. It eliminates lining up early and gives everyone an equal chance.

I'm not surprised that they would prefer a certain variant; everyone does. I'm saying that if you waste all day in the chutes at DLD then you are missing out. Personally, I hope that half of the people who bought tickets wait in line from dawn to dusk - it will just make the fest that much more fun for me.

And you would have bought a ticket if they told you there would a thunderdome to determine who would advance into the handjee line, so I'm not buying the "they changed the rules on me" line.

Back before the format changed, when it was a free for all, you used to get a pour of dark lord on your way in to the brewery.

It was a shit show then, but I don't think the pour had anything to do with it.

This has been brought up before... but no one here knows. I think FFF can figure it out since they're usually on top of everything.

[Inception music playing] It's a line within a line! This is where you score the best variants, but to get even better chances, you want to enter a line within that line!

I was under the impression dl aged steaks would be served to the first 50 people in each group! But if you're at the back you get lobster aged in Temecula 3000.

Someone was talking about making a dl marinade for a roast like 35 pages ago. It probably worked out pretty well!
