A variant wasn't priced into the ticket in 2014.

    Weather update...

60/40. 40% chance of rain. 14 mph winds.

Says showers early and then intermittent rain in the afternoon.

So for a slight twist to the current "variants are/aren't important" arguments. How would these two scenarios change your plans for the day?

    1) the lines for each group are mostly under a giant tent(s) and nothing else is besides the bands (lol Zach)

    2) basically everything else besides the lines for each group are under tents, including the taps lines, band, bottle share/tables. Essentially if you want to wait in lines early, you are exposed to the elements while everyone else is mostly dry

FFF has always had first come, first serve on variant choice. They reiterated that last year when people said it wasn't fair for other groups. Many people made their group choice this year based on that statement and track record. I would have gone group E had they announced that earlier. You change the rules mid game, people have the right to be pissed. FFF has done an extra piss poor job of communicating this year. Updating the ticket site with the variant change less than 24 hours before tickets went on sale? Not touching their DLD twitter site until last week which is where all the updates are supposed to be? They didn't announce the variant or vintage issue on the DLD twitter page- that's where the most current info is supposed to be. They are doing less than the bare minimum on communication so I can understand peoples frustrations.

I am just enforcing the point that @kodt made about the "Finally got Group A" thing.

Too much lawyer, not enough beer geek.

Can we agree FFF needs to be more transparent, and less illogical?

I no longer think it's very ethical for them to sell tickets to a fest where it's not clear how it will work and what will be available, especially when the prices are built in. Almost all other festivals announce the attending breweries, exactly what you will be receiving as far as bottles (if any), and they even provide a taplist as it develops, more often than not. FFF playing coy and mysterious is really starting to seem like they're trying to bleed this for as much as it's worth for as long as they can before they have to start putting DL on shelves.

They only updated the variant notice at the last minute, not everyone saw that, but for those that did, there's a reason group D and E tickets did not sell out as quickly. And, there's a reason A sold out instantly--and since, their assumptions that A is a guarantee like last year have been shot to shit with the recent announcements.

Again, providing these details after having cash in hand is, at the very least, unethical. Just because they put a "subject to change" notice doesn't protect them from that.

Weather has no effect on my plans.... I survived last year and stayed the entire day... Nothing will be as bad/compare to last year's weather IMO.

Last year the difference between being at the beginning of a group vs being toward the end of the group was not too big. You might lose access to one or two of the variants as your group moved through. Group E wasn't getting Handjee no matter how early you got in, group A wasn't getting stuck with Cardamom even if you showed up at the end of your slot.

This year the difference between being at the front of the line and the back of the line of each group is as big as it can possibly be (from Handjee to no variant at all). In other words the incentive to get in line early is as large as it possibly be at an event like this. With some groups not getting access to their timeslot for a while, a lot of people are going to set up camp in unofficial lines with folks moving in and out go participate in the share, go to the bathroom etc. Lots of opportunity for confusion, people waiting in the wrong place as well as intentional and unintentional line cutting.

There might be information we're missing, like separate lines inside or random bags or something but without a high degree of organization the setup they're describing is kind of bananas.

What weather service (and are you looking at right day and location)? According to Accuweather, Saturday 13th in Munster is projected for 65F, mostly sunny and 0% of precipitation.

    Ok let's change directions.

Would you give up a variant for 72 and sunny guaranteed? Or Handjee guaranteed for everyone, but the weather would be just like this past Saturday?

LOL, when have FFF ever done a stupendous job of communicating wrt Dark Lord Day? Answer is never really. People who have gone to the event over the years realize this and expect it each year. I certainly do not have an issue with this year's 'extra piss poor job of communicating' because it has always been like this and I know this going in before trying to purchase tickets.

Unfortunately it does protect them from that. I spoke with my brother-in-law the other day (he's a lawyer) and I asked him about what you just mentioned. I can't remember all of the legal jargon and laws relating to events, ticket sales, and such that he mentioned but that simple "subject to change" statement allows them to change anything whenever they want, legally speaking. He also mentioned consumer clauses and other things and basically said that as a consumer we have the option to not buy their product again and not attend DLD again and that's the recourse that would have to take place and the only way as consumers that we can hurt their business.

Yes I agree and understand that, but ethics is different, and that's what I'd mentioned prior to that statement.

Who wants to spend an entire Saturday in line to sell a Hanjee for a few hundred bucks? If that's your plan, either you're purposefully fucking up what could have been a fun weekend, or you're really broke. Either way, I kind of feel sorry for you.

I get that. FFF has never been very "ethical" in their ways and I'm sure they've lost a few customers over the years based on their business practices. I think they handled things even sh*ttier than they usually do this year.

I get that and I know a lot of people share that opinion. I think it's a bad idea however to generalize and point fingers at people for doing what they choose to do with their money. To each their own. I'm with you. I'll be enjoying the day and opening my variant to drink it at some point. I could care less what anyone else wants to do with their sh*t.
