Got this small bottle to try and very happy with it, will get some 750's tomorrow. Not sure if this beer has been posted in the tread but it it truly delicious! Hazy pour, tasted hoppy, fruity and a hint of pepper. Just enough elderflowers to be refreshing but not over the top. Love it, maybe i'm so positive since I haven't had a good new saison in ages..

I haven't seen this in AGES! It used to come to NYC via 12%. I'd love to drink it again.

Cheers you all and Happy new Beer Sunday. I thought I would thread hop today because I have done it before. This is Field 2 Farmhouse Ale please check out my full review in New Beer Sunday which is coming soon . . . as soon as I type it. I hate typing. There I said it.

This was a good saison but not spectacular. What kept it out of the 4 range is the fact that it did not finish dry. The bjcp will tell you that the carbonation and the hop bitter create the perception of dryness. This one was just bitter and had a good balance in the flavor. It also had a bit of sweaty funk on it. The same kind that used to be in GI's Sofie. The sweat or funk in this beer is the stuff misunderstanding is made of. Is it sour? It is peppery ? IS it spoiled? It is not sour. It is peppery and it is not spoiled.

Cheers and see you with the full review over in New Beer Sunday!

    Paradox Brewing Lemon Lime Saison

Pours hazy and soft yelllow with a very fat head of bubbly foam that makes you wait. The nose is crisp with the scent of lime. The lemon is soft and generous and so is the cracker malt. Spice and grasses mingle with lime. Lime goes well with herbal hops. The sugar is a fresh sweetness over the top of the beer and the hops are at once cool when they glimpse that sweetness. The drink is tart. I mean tart and bubbly and tastes like lime. Dry but it has a generous malt. A soft sweet cracker. The spice and hop pepper finish this one and bitterness lingers.

If you do not like the clean taste of lime and seltzer or maybe even a white wine spritzer, then you will not like this beer. The tartness is not exaggerated for the style but it will surprise you if you are too tamed and looking for sweets. Refreshing, crisp, bubbly. Perfectly dry.

Pairs with cucumber sandwiches, lady fingers and the word impromptu. Cheers 750 Siason. New Beer Sunday is coming. Also pairs with My Baguettes with Butter and Jam.

Cheers you all! I am just making the rounds before New Beer Sunday and I am happy to be able to say I have a new saison from Ommegang.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Last year on my FB page I did a series of tastings on beers with additions and I called it The Additional Summer . The Saison beer style traditionally adds table sugar, spices or fruit peel and can also add herbs. It's one of my favorite summer beers with additions. Happy More Additional Summer!

This is Ommegang Short Sleeve Saison

Pours matte yellow with a foamy head of Belgian style foam that leaves lace as you drink. Nose is pungent with citrus and funk. A light sweetness shows you something tart and tempts you to a gentle but prominent cracker malt. Spice. This is Ommegang at it's best. Lemon and pepper. A modest abv at 4.5%. Drinks sweetly and with lots of malt. Sweet fresh herbs, earthy grasses. Crisp perfect bubbles this one finishes completely dry. Bitterness is firm but not obtrusive. I wish there was a bit more of that citrusy tartness and funk in the finish but I can't complain. As the beer warms the grasses and spice are so headdy and so fragrant I am reminded of why Ommegang has a reputation for making this style of beer.

    Surly Misanthrope (2017).
Belgian-style Saison/Pale w/ brett aged in white wine barrels. One sip and I had to run back before the store closed to grab 4 more. Now I'm in the predicament "but if I open one today, I will only have 3 left."

Saison has quickly become a favorite style of mine. It is one that I passed up for so long, but after recently having Stillwater's Cellar Door and getting my hands on a bottle of Saison DuPont, I'm hooked. I plan to brew a saison for my next Homebrew, and I found myself at the bottle shop inquiring about any and all saisons they might have. Unfortunately, the answer was "not many" but I was pointed in the direction of this offering from Unibroue.

This beer was brewed in collaboration with Megadeth's Dave Mustaine. Apparently, Dave and Unibroue brewmaster Jerry Vietz crossed paths while Megadeth was in Quebec City for a show. It is dry hopped and is also Unibroue's lowest ABV beer. Having enjoyed La Fin Du Monde and Maudite, I jumped at the opportunity to pick this one up.

Unibroue - A Tout Le Monde

The beer pours a pale golden yellow, with a one finger white head that has good retention and leaves a bit of sticky lacing clung to the glass.

The smell is hoppy with citrus, tropical fruits and lemongrass.

Flavor is similar: lots of citrus, tropical fruits including mango, lemongrass, and a fair bit of spice. Finishes dry.

Lighter side of medium body, lively carbonation.

This is a really nice, refreshing, sessionable saison!

    Cheers!

I found these two videos on youtube which I thought complemented the other video I posted. The first one is pretty much a repeat of the first video but with different scenes, and the second contained some interesting footage of a Christmas dinner where the brew was served. Notice the murky, cloudy appearance and lack of foam when served. At 2:11 the narrator says that "That the hops sometimes stop the tapping is not that unusual.", indicating the use of hops in the barrel (since the boiling of hops and adding them to the barrel is commonly referenced in 19th century north German brewing I wouldn't rule out boiled hops added to the barrel).

Sorry to dig up this thread, but this is the most informative saison thread I remember being around.
My friend brought over some Stillwater Shoegaze last night, and I love it. I believe it may have Brettanomyces in it, because it is a somewhat tart, and I think it's brewed with oats, lactose, and a bunch of hops. It's very well-balanced and nothing really stands out or explodes in your face, it's just extremely refreshing and drinkable. You get notes of orange, lemon, green apple, peach, pineapple, white wine, cracker, and straw. It's just lightly tart, and lightly dry. I love this a lot. I could drink something like this every day, especially in the summer.

    Looks good!

I'd love to see this in my area, Stillwater's Cellar Door and Stateside Saisons are a couple of my favorites!

Thanks. I had that beer. I felt like it was a case of a brewer introducing NEIPA elements into a "saison" - something inevitable that I think we'll see more of. The can states that it is a "distorted farmhouse pale ale," and in hindsight, I felt like that was an indication of this mashup. Could just be my take on it though. Maybe all in my head.

    Say zon wah?
    Say zon e eh?

Most likely, but I didn't find all that out until after the fact. Going on in the first can I knew nothing about it. I just thought of it as a sessionable Brett saison.

The more I drink saisons the more they remind me of white wine. It's the style that would most appeal to white wine drinkers, I think.

If I can ever figure out how to do pictures again post-photobucket, I'll put up several new saisons and bière de garde I had in France in June. L'Angelus Au Froment, Salamandra, La Blonde D'Esquelbecq, Saison D'Erpe-Mere (winner!) and more. Just to be a total jerk, I'll post yet another pic of me drinking more Cuvée Des Jonquilles since I know @zid hasn't had that yet. Added bonus...they are actually 750s like the post title states and not cans or 22s.

I was very excited to see two new saisons on the shelf at my local shop yesterday: Against the Grain's Coq De La Marche, and Left Hand's Saison au Miel.

Here are my impressions of the AtG beer, brewed right here in KY. I'll be back tomorrow with the other:

Pours golden and crystal clear with a white, frothy head that fades quickly.

A bright fruitiness kicks off the aroma followed by a suggestion of spice and then a bready undertone.

The flavor follows suit, characterized by a balance of juiciness, spice, and bready malt. The classic saison spiciness is more subdued in this beer, balanced but not overtaken by malt and hop flavors. The finish is dry with a lingering, medium bodied mouthfeel.

This is a tasty saison, very balanced and particularly drinkable.

This is part of the Saison appeal for me as well and I have also made the white wine comparison. As styles go it's remarkably adaptable, particularly with food.
