To be honest, I don't quite remember. I think I read it in this thread. I believe that previously they had the event organizer listed on the website, or the [email protected] routed to the organizers.

In previous years it was volunteer, and the volunteer facebook group is still up. Like I said, I could be wrong, because I remember reading it between Dragon Abortion nonsense and Variant Anxiety.

I highly doubt allotments will be assigned by ticket number. There are probably ~2000 people per group. The line will CRAWL if they need to get a specific bag after reading a ticket number, no matter how organized the bags are. Also that introduces other problems like what happens when the wrong bag is inevitably given out on accident? Then you have "missing" bags and the line slows even more.

Now I'm just rooting not to get vintage bottles. I don't even care what variant I get anymore

That's about market rate, right? Not that I would know anything about that...

Well, there goes the need for anyone to get there super early and wait all day in allotment lines.

As a group A'er myself, this is the best possible outcome for me. No need to get up at the ass crack of dawn (which I doubt I would have anyway). Time to relax and just enjoy the 50-60 degree day (and metal)!

Glad the rules were changed but 3F clearly doesn't know a thing about business and only about beer. People who used last years rules which were posted prior to ticket sales who understood the advantage of getting Group A Tickets and had certain expectations and were willing to pay for those expectations... via Airfare/Rental/Hotel accommodations are now stuck with a random bottle. Even worse is if you overspent and unlucky enough to get a 2016/2015 bottle that you may already have from prior years... especially in Group A where you were told, first come first served.

Changing the rules not just once, but twice is bush league. If 3F would have just made sure the rules were clear before purchase and stuck to them, everyone would be fine with them. This rule update changes the dynamics of the event for variant seekers.

Anyone who "overspent" counting on getting some rare variant bottle to flip on the secondary market has poor priorities and financial management skills, and deserves whatever they get.

As a newbie going as a couple sharing our beer allotments I just hope we don't get the same random allotment (mainly worried about getting hit with doubles of vintage/Muerte/Oscuro).

Also the up-to-the-last-minute multiple rule changes from the previous year are sort of ridiculous (even though as a first timer they have no real bearing on me as we didn't try to position for Group A or anything).

What if I just want a Handjee and don't want to sell it?

I have a solution to people who get 2 bottles of Regular Dark Lord... instead of a variant, just give that person a special pour ticket to a Variant tapping at the event. That might make up for the lack of variants for each participant.

That is a terrible assumption that everyone flips. Most people just want to try one of the variants they have never had before.

Agreed. Got a Hanjee and an FVM last year. Didn't flip and never would. Won't this year, unless I get the "vintage" bottles.

What if you decided to make a cross country trip, buy plane tickets and a hotel room because you thought you had the opportunity to get a beer you'd not have access to under other conditions, and we're fortunate enough to get group A, and group A was the only ticket that would make you book the trip?

I completely agree that random is fair and the right thing to do, but after doing First Come, first serve for a decade, they really should have communicated this fact BEFORE tickets went on sale, especially because it's not like they just decided on this process in the last week.
