But that would imply that 3 Floyds thinks that the vintages are somehow worse than the variants. I'm sure they don't see it that way.

I'm surprised there haven't been more complaints about getting 2 old Dark Lord bottles instead of a variant, especially because of the fact that we all paid $180 for a ticket, regardless of which group you are in. When tickets went on sale, we all knew that a variant was "not guaranteed", so I (and I'm sure a lot of others) who really wanted a variant, passed on Group D and E tickets and tried their luck to get A, B or C to help their chances of at least getting some bottle of BA Dark Lord.

I actually do like the fact that the variant choice is removed and it will be at random. That definitely makes it more fair to those in the latter groups and those who can't camp out and get there at an insane hour. However, at $180 a ticket, we are ALL paying for a bottle of BA Dark Lord... and them unloading old regular Dark Lord to a portion of us really isn't fair. I'd say it would be more fair if they stated this up front that it would be random, but then again, 3F is obviously taking advantage of their patrons to maximize profits, which is why they withheld this information from the beginning. I'm sure they knew all along that they were going to sell more tickets than they had BA bottles, so to make sure that the event sold out quickly, they didn't tell us about the random distribution part. If they did, I probably wouldn't have tried for tickets at all.

I don't care what variant I get, but if I'm paying for it, I better get some BA DL. Sorry, but 2 bottles of 14, 15 or 16 regular Dark Lord does not equal 1 bottle of any BA Dark Lord. If some people want to pay $180 a ticket and are willing to take a roll of the dice at getting a BA variant, then that's cool... but they should have been straightforward and said this up front before tickets went on sale.

I actually preferred the old way -- paying $45 a ticket and going to DLD knowing I was going to have a good time, with the possibility of getting a scratch off ticket to be one of the few lucky people to have the option of purchasing a BA bottle for $50. If the cost of producing the BA beer is so much more than the past, then make it $60 or $70 to purchase it -- people will still buy it. Just don't make all of us subsidize the cost of BA DL by giving us old bottles of regular DL.

At the same time, if they sold more tickets than past years, we are all way overpaying for long lines and crappy weather (I liked complaining about the weather more than this variant distribution crap!)

Pfft, I literally watched an employee take $20 a few years ago from a person who lost the scratch off, and give him a BVDL. That was less than what the bottle was supposed to cost if he had won! They're volunteers for the most part, so I'd say you have decent chances at getting what you want if you slip some cash and there isn't a supervisor of some sort around.

Is it too late to volunteer? I could use the extra $2,000 in cash I'll make taking bribes all day.

I can't wait it to read the DLD recap, ha.

I disagree completely. If you're not on Facebook beer groups of other beer related websites, you will have no idea it can take 2+ hours to get into the event.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think if a person is willing to spend $200 on a beer event that sells out almost instantly and are aware enough to be online right when tickets go on sale then there's no reason they can't find out how the process of getting in line for the fest goes. I've never been on FB/FB beer groups and I've never had any issue attending this fest from the first year I started going. The information is out there and if people aren't going to seek it out then that's their fault.

Damn...where'd I put my rain gear? That seems to be the one aspect of DLD from last year that I can't remember. Oh, and I have a DLD PRO TIP: Spray your backpack with the water/stain repellent spray that they make for shoes. Do two coats as directed. It helps the water bead up and keeps the inside of your backpack dry.

I literally just went out to my storage closet and dug out my Frogg Toggs and Boots from the last two years. Totally using the water replant idea for my backpack, as that did get a little moist last year....

I won't start to take the forecast too seriously until Wednesday at the earliest, but seeing 60% for Saturday on Weather Channel right now admittedly has me nervous.

You can say that about anything though. Very rarely when I buy tickets to an event do I do any research beforehand on what the entrance procedure is. I just assume gates open at " x time" means they'll be a little bit of a line, and If I show up 15-20 before hand, I should be fine and get in in maybe 30 min if there's a line.

Especially considering there's nothing on the DLD FAQ mentioning long entrance lines. It would be very easy to add.

I would never fault someone because they didn't go to 3rd party sources. You bought tickets to drink beer and go to a concert.

Same here, shooting for 8. I'm worried about my wife as she has a Group D. It'll be a long day before her time to get her allotment.

I'm not encouraging this step, but the chargeback reason code of Goods Not As Described would be very applicable in this scenario, if people were unsatisfied with the transaction.
