I've heard from a few sources that Surly/the surrounding businesses are not going to allow camping out this year. Anyone else have more info on this, and whether "no camping out" means no setting up tables, lawn chairs, etc? Would be good to know this stuff while trying to plan for Darkness Eve...

I believe what I had heard from a descent source is, they are gonna allow you to have chairs and such, but no tents at all.

Either way, as long as chairs and tables are allowed it'll be a great show regardless. Fire pits would be nice too.

I think there will be some clarification posted on their website week prior to the event....which makes it kind of tough for the out-of-towners...

I emailed the brewery and they replied saying more information will be released tomorrow on their facebook page and website. I'm curious about the tent situation too.

Don't plan on camping; I'm not saying you won't be able to, just don't plan on it.

I'm planning on it. :stuck_out_tongue: If you camp out you better bring at least seven or eight layers of sleeping bag & blankets.

I dont much care if they allow tents, but I really hope I can bring a canopy. They were a life saver at Dark Lord Day with the downpour. Either way I am there overnight

canopy should be just fine, it would be up on the street right? We spoke to Omar briefly at ABR about this and he seemed to be OK with anything that is on the street. I'm assuming the reason they don't want tents/camping this year is because it's a problem once people leave the street and go onto other company property. That and they are probably anticipating yet again, a record number of people to attend the event.

Thrre is all also a liability issue with people camping in the businesses yard.

There is no liability issue - it would fall into the same area as a homeless individual sleeping in the doorway of a company. As long as the company doesn't post a sign or provide anything in writting allowing individuals to use their business yard - you are technically their against the law. Here is the problem - there is no way to stop people from camping out besides canceling the event.

I always laugh about the canopy issue - I'm bring one that has four walls, so what is the difference between that and a tent? The problem is people need to pay attention to signs, take the tents down earlier, and not make a mess! In my opinion Darkness Day will be interesting this year because Ebay is nolonger driving the secondary market. If I had to guess, there will be a few hundred people more as compared to last year.

    • We will have volunteers helping with the line overnight. Please follow their direction as they can blackball you from the event if you don’t.

    Pro Tip:
The event always thins out later in the afternoon. Come on out in the afternoon to enjoy the free bands and the brewery.
