I have only had this batch of cans and the last batch of cans but they taste the same to me. Spandex was never hazy and creamy in my experience.

You're exactly right. I just opened my last cab from the first release and my only can from the most recent release. The older batch is on the left and the newest one is on the right. Night and day comparison.

So, update on my trip to Al's yesterday. I tried the BBA SSU and thought it didn't even compare to non-BBA SSU. The coffee just doesn't cut it in the BBA SSU. If you marked them at the same price, I'd still go with the non-BBA SSU. As for the LemonDAIRY, fantastic. We were all in awe by this one (even my buddy who doesn't like sours or IPAs - figure that one out).

Your picture was the one that inspired me to try one of my cans. Was hoping it wasn't a widespread issue. :slight_frown:

Hmm, so I just looked at my photo from the last can batch of Spandex and it does look a bit hazier, although not quite as drastic a difference as @PA-Michigander. I still liked the taste though.

Anyone hit Al up about it on Twitter? He does monitor it. You should tweet him that photo.

No change to the recipe per Al on Instagram.

Has anyone had any 'way off' cans of BB SSU? The first can I had soon after the release was terrific. However, the last two cans I've had make me think there could be a problem with infection. I get a sour aftertaste.

It's really a shame, especially with how costly each can is. Regular SSU is still one of my favorites, but I don't anticipate on buying the BB version again, at least if it remains at the current price.

Yes, see my post above. Non-BBA SSU is wayyy better.

My last two cans weren't just not as good as regular... I'm thinking infection.

I can't say I've had a beer known to be infected before, but based on what I've read about the symptoms, it sure seems like that's what I had. There are a few Untappd reviews that state the same, so I don't think I'm crazy or my palate is way off.

Dude, mine was sour too. I just had it on Saturday at Al's.

Haven't had a can less than great yet, between the Vietnamese and regular BBA. Still a few cans left, though.

Cracked my last can of BBASSU last night. Definitely some major fall off for sure. The first can I had was creamy chocolatey coffee. The second wasn't sour like others have said, it was more like drinking an old somewhat acidic stale coffee. It was drinkable just not where it was when it first dropped.

Have to say, I was really pleasantly surprised with Palate Mallet. Tasty Triple IPA, which for me is harder and harder to come by these days. Wheezin' The Juice was really good too, but DIPAs are more in my wheelhouse.

I think a lot of people mistake coffee flavors for infection as the beer ages. Most older coffee beers I have had have had green pepper notes. I can't remember all the science behind it, but I think there was a study done on how coffee flavors change over time, and some sort of reaction that happens.

I can see that. However, the BB version seems to really accentuate the sour notes. It's a shame... I still have cans of the regular SSU and it's great, but the BB version (which was canned more recently) has been undrinkable for me.

I'm still not a sour beer fan. Perhaps if I was, it would be bearable.

Also of relevance, I just had a Sunday Morning Stout bottled in January 2016 this weekend... no hints of sour. Not very coffee-forward obviously, but it tasted as I'd expect a BB coffee stout of that age.

Are the reports of the off batch of Spandex only for the cans, or is it off on tap as well? I was going to grab a 6 pack of spandex but may go with a crowler if the quality is better. I'm heading to Atlantic City this weekend, looking to take a few different beers.

I bought some cans this weekend and they seem just fine for what the beer is.

I would imagine it is the same batch of beer.
