Just a heads up that Wilmington Brewing Company closes at 6:00 PM on Sundays, but I think most other places will be open until around 9 or 10 on Sunday nights. Let us know where you end up and enjoy!

Appreciate it! We should be getting into town around 1, so I may try to go to Wilmington Brewing on our way in town. We are staying downtown off Front Street.

Nice- That's a great place to start off your trip. If you're going to be over that way, I would swing by Hey!beer for a pint afterwards. Would also suggest going to Satellite during the afternoon/early evening since the weather should be nice and would probably end with a combination of Fork N Cork and New Anthem. Fork n Cork will likely have a wait, so you can go put your name in, walk over to New Anthem and grab a beer or two and they'll text you when your table is ready. If you're in need of a night cap, I would head to Cape Fear Beer and Wine (for beer) and/or Front Street Brewery (if you want whiskey, as they have the largest Bourbon selection in NC).

Another cool thing you can do on Sunday nights is go to Manna for "Beggars Can't Be Choosers", where they offer small plates for like $7-8 and you just pick Veggie, Meat, Seafood, etc- don't know exactly what you're getting but its always delicious. They are more wine/cocktail focused restaurant, but they have 3 or 4 craft taps and you can just ask for a "beer" and they pour you something for like $3. Worth calling to make a reservation if that sounds like something you'd be into. I live downtown on 4th street , so feel free to ask if you have any questions. Cheers!

OP Since youre heading out to Wrightsville Beach, eat at Bluewater Grill for dinner. Then atke some cash over to Causeway Cafe for breakfast. Super cheap and delicious food. Stop at Lighthouse Wine and Beverage on your way to the beach. Place is legit, and bottle selection is insane.

As for downtown Wilmington, hit up Cape Fear Wine and Beer as well as Bombers Beverage Co. Probably the best non-brewery taplists in town.

eh sure. I didnt think it was worth freaking out over.

I really appreciate all of the recommendations. I'll report back on Monday what all we were able to see. We are going to Greenfield Lake for a show in the evening, but will be exploring before and after.

Heading down Thursday, so it seems I should prioritize my stops as WBC>New Anthem?

We got into town Wednesday early afternoon. I think Wilmington Brewing was our favorite. New Anthem was a cool spot, but didn't have any IPA's on draft. Tried the kolsch and saison. Had some really good food at Fork and Cork. Thanks again for all of the recommendations.

Yep, especially if you're an IPA fan. WBC's IPA selection is insane right now. They just released Kitten Biscuit which is a hazy, juice bomb. I think its on par with stuff from Heist. They also have Cool Kids (NE style IPA), Midtown Swank (DIPA), Lightning Strikes twice (DIPA) and Tropical Lightning which is their flagship IPA.

I don't think New Anthem will have any IPAs on, but all of their beers are true to style and very well made. The pilsner and kolsch are both fantastic. Cheers!

Great info in this thread. I'll be heading out to Wilmington this weekend and am pleasantly surprised to see they have a bit of a beer scene. Any of the above recommendations better for families (see: kids) than others? Thanks in advance for info everyone.

Wilmington Brewing Company always has a good deal of kids/families. Lots of games in the back, so that is probably your best bet. Most of the places downtown are a bit smaller, but have certainly seen kids at New Anthem as well, just not much in the way of games. Cape Fear Beer and Wine is the only place that I know does not allow anyone under 21 (even kids). Copper Penny would be great for lunch with kids too. Lots of people also bring their kids to Lighthouse at Wrightsville beach to hang in the beer garden because they can head next door and get ice cream from SurfBerry. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers!

PS- I'm pouring beers Saturday afternoon at New Anthem, so feel free to say hey if you stop by.

It hasn't improved- my go to in that area is Fat Pelican although they won't have anything local to Wilmington (cans/bottles only), lots of great craft options and its an awesome dive bar. Wilmington Brewing Company will have the canning line up and running in June, so you should be able to pick up some cans from the brewery and grab some crowlers while you're there and bring those with you. Other options would be to stock up at Candy's Exxon, which is a gas station on the way to Carolia Beach with an amazing selection, typically has atleast one or two local tap handles on and you can get a growler filled there (you can check their untappd draft menu before you). Veggie Wagon in Carolina Beach also has 10 taps and I believe one is dedicated to Wilmington brewing, so you should can also fill growlers there.

My brother and parents live in Wilmington. Was down last month for a short visit. Hit Iron Clad Brewing Co. downtown. Thought the beers were solid and the space is nice. My brother lives about 2 minutes from Fermental, so thats always a must stop for us, but it's outside of town.

Well the weekend got away from me pretty quickly, but I did get to make it down to New Anthem since our rental is only a few blocks away. Holy shit is Neon God a great beer. Gotta admit, I was not expecting something this tasty. Cool spot too.

Tried to get over to WBC, but they closed at 6 PM - on a holiday weekend??? :slight_frown: Oh well.

Thanks for the recs everyone! Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed it! sorry about WBC, didn't realize they were keeping normal Sunday hours over the long weekend either. You'll just have to come back again soon.

Do you know when the canning line will be up this month? Heading down that way for vacation in a few weeks and hope to hit the jackpot.
