Logistically it probably won't be easy, but I want to do a Munchner helles showdown at some point. Bierstadt, Zwei, and Prost compared to a few Munich examples (Spaten, Paulaner, and H-P would be easiest) as well as Mahr's, Weihenstephan, Andechs, and maybe ABK or another smaller Bavarian brewer.

I generally prefer helles to pilsner and I feel more comfortable picking a favorite. With pils, I know Herren is always my favorite but my opinions seem to vary with most others.

I think you're missing a pretty prominent one there.

@southdenverhoo, It was at Mondo Vino.

Is the DD one consistently on or just a here and there example? ...or am I missing another one?

I think lately it's been rotating in and out with the Pilsner. I plan to continue that, so one of them will always be lagering and one will always be on tap. I have a couple of light beers in planning for a buffer if we need more lagering time.

If you wanna bring back Cool Lime as a seasonal I'd be game. You could even make it a blonde or Koelsch.

Anyone try the new lager from Odell in the new summer Montage variety pack? Nail Knot.

I've been curious about it, but have sworn off pale ales for the time being, so I haven't picked one up.

The Wit's End maibock is really good. It's their first lager, although there are a couple more in the pipeline.
The color might throw some people off as it's more of a copper color, although there are several in Bavaria (Hofbrau and Forschungs being a couple) that rock the darker pale bocks.

I'll echo the praise for the Prost maibock. Great spring beer. And I'm not even that big of a connoisseur of the lighter German styles.

I know its not a lager, but that dayblazer from NB is a damn fine grilling beer. Cheap enough to boil brats in, but tasty enough to drink, and pretty damn cheap.

I know it's Maibock season, but Dry Dock has a pretty nice doppelbock on. It's a nice fit for the cooler weather we're experiencing.

Will have to try the Dry Dock, thanks for the recc @Domingo. Avery's Baby Trogdor: The Burninator is a really good doppelbock. I find myself drinking more dark lagers late winter (I know, it's not winter anymore) as opposed to the big BA stouts I enjoy so much through the darker months. Prost!

I think bocks would probably appeal to more geeks if they gave them a chance. They are strong, sweet, dark, drinkable, and can even hold up to adjuncts if that's what you want.
You can also get massive port/sherry notes from a doppelbock if you feel like aging it.

Everyone should give moderately fresh (6-8 months is fine) Celebrator a shot at some point. It probably has the most depth of any bock I can think of and IMO it puts the vast majority of big beers to shame.

Totally agree on Celebrator. One of my favorite German beers without question. I wish there was a close equivalent here in the US, but it just doesn't seem to exist.

You bring up a good point with adjuncts. I would be curious to try a coffee doppelbock, or even something a little more off the wall like maple.

Yeah, dude -- doppelbocks seem to be entirely overlooked by the current beer geek.
Aged or fresh, they always scratch that big beer itch for me.

Oooooooh- imagine how a more bitter coffee adjunct addition would compliment a thick, sweet doppelbock!
