As opposed to the batch that was released over a year ago? This is a new batch 100%

Well, today was the day. Opened a fresh one and opened the first release. The first one has a nice citrus bite, bitter and hotter than Kate Uptons side tit. The aged has softer edges, less bite from the orange peel and more of an orange candy thing. Hops are still there but they provide less of a citrus note and more of an herbal thing. It's smooth as hell and less hot for sure.

Not bad, but I'm not really a fan of Kate Upton's side tit. Otherwise ok review.

My first visit to Carton yesterday was epic. Got there at 12:10 and with the wife we were able to buy a case of AOE. Great people, loved the tenders in the upstairs room, and will def be going again soon. Already drank two AOEs, and while def delicious I think some time on them will make them epic. Thanks, Carton!

I went to Kane first to get Corduroy. Hope there's still AOE left.

Just left, probably a little over 20 cases left that I can see. No line.

Whoever said Shinshu reminds them of Gilded Lily was spot on. There's definitely a similarity there, and that's a good thing for me, because GL is for sure my favorite "weird" Carton beer.

I went to Kane and Carton with a buddy yesterday and we each got a four pack of AOE, Wit Whale, and Corduroy, and we were discussing something we had both been wondering about for a while now...for the people who buy entire cases of the same beer, do you guys actually drink all of that beer or is most of it for other people? It is very rare that I buy even two four-packs of the same beer, and then I see people walking out of a brewery with an entire case, or posting pictures on facebook of like four cases of an IPA, and I just wonder if people are buying beer just to collect it, or if their taste buds are somehow exempt from the law of diminishing marginal utility.

Do you also have other beers in your fridge, or do you load up on one beer at a time? If you have other beers, how much beer do you have on hand and how much do you drink if you regularly buy full allotments? Even drinking a beer or two every night, I feel like I would either get tired of having so much of the same beer, or would be buying beer faster than I could drink it.

I think that there's something to be said about really getting to know a beer. Over the course of multiple visits, you get different things out of it, especially background flavors that you can't focus on until you're really familiar with the more obvious characteristics of the beer. Also, it's interesting to watch a beer change as time passes. I'm not a believer in the notion that IPA needs to be days-old to be fantastic. Seeing an IPA evolve over a period of weeks is fascinating to me.

interestingly, it's not beer that led me to these conclusions originally, but rather whisky. It was really my early experiences with single malts that made me realize that I needed at least a bottle (and probably a month with that bottle) to even begin to really understand a particular whisky.

At the same time, I'd never proclaim that there's a "right" way to approaching a hobby. Some people thrive on variety and that's awesome. That said, there are definitely people, like myself, who like to take a deeper dive and there's a lot of enjoyment to be found there.

I know AOE was a collab with Other Half when it was 1st released. I assume this batch was brewed by Carton alone? Most if not all collabs seem to be one offs so curious if Carton will be brewing and releasing this themselves on a regular basis?
