It tastes nothing like a Cream ale - its tastes like just another hoppy ale - try a Newburgh Cream ale or I hear Croydon Cream Ale by Neshaminy Creek Brewing is really good. Maybe the style was changed to Blonde Ale to reflect this. I like my beers to be within ballpark for a particular style - not just whatever someone wants to call it.

But on topic - refusing an offered beer because you don't like it is pretty classless. Its been said before but - beer geeks are the worst part of craft beer.

Id agree whit this, it's hard for some distant breweries to keep up with the local fresh stuff. A good bit of the CA hoppy beers die on the shelf while they pick up some Buriel, Jade or Pernicious. As an example. SN is certainly craft enough, it turns over fast enough unlike most. I don't drink SA because it's not craft enough, it's because I don't like their beers, SN is a different story , them I like.

I would have slapped the little prick and said : "Listen you rude, ignorant little snot, Sierra Nevada was fighting the good fight on behalf of craft beer lovers across this country when you were in Pampers and drinking juice out of a sippy cup! YOU'RE NOT WORTHY OF SN so you go ahead and enjoy your " Local Guys" right up until they go broke because nobody wanted to drink their Kool-Aid IPA or when they get bought out by AB-InBEV!"

Neshaminy Creek is opening a new pub by me this weekend, so I'll keep an eye out for that. Bringing it back to the original thread... I am legitimately excited to get to support a local brewery now! But wouldn't turn down a Newburgh if somebody handed it to me -- and I'll still be looking for the new SN Beer Camp pack, too. (Will probably grab the new and improved Sixpoint sampler, as well.)

This young gentleman needs to learn a very important life lesson IMHO....

The best beer in the world: free beer
The second best beer in the world: cold beer

I hate Bud Light. Still wouldn't turn it down if the guy next to me offered one out of his cooler.

You must be in a state of continual frustration with craft brewers!

I just picked up some Neshaminy Creek SOHTC just tonight . Couldn't resist, though, haven't seen some in a while.

On the other hand, I still buy a hell of a lot of locals these days - how could you not? But after that first try, they are all put in the same groups as my regular rotation, semi-regular, and so on and will have to compete on their own merits.

He probably supports a lot of bad beer too. Not craft enough or not, I support free beer. Especially when someone is graciously offering it. What a dick.

No problems with trying to drink local. But the words "not craft enough" don't really fit for me personally. It's a semantics game that is purely subjective. Different people have different thoughts on what craft is. Apparently that guy wants craft to evolve back to what it was 120 years ago, so good for him. But I'm betting he'd be happy to partake in limited release brews from across the country and would forget his local crusade for that case. So the "local only" theory is a bit flawed if those are desirable. We need some bigger breweries on the craft scene for those to remain relatively widely available.

According to some articles posted here and there lately.. AB is craft :grinning:

To the OP.. it's no big deal really. Just keep your eye on him.. if you ever catch him drinking anything not considered local.. give him the 'hypocrite' speech.

A lot of the craft beer OGs aren't really appreciated anymore. A lot of people who are newer to beer are stuck on whatever hyped style or brewery got them into beer. I've never had anyone dis Sierra Nevada, but I've had this happen with summit beers before. They're a great budget craft beer, so I bought several 12 packs for a party along with the standard cheap stuff. It seems like a lot of people don't appreciate non juice bomb IPAs, sours or stouts anymore.

I can kinda understand the idea of only wanting to support local breweries. My issue is conflating that with it being craft. I realize this point has been brought up concerning living near a macro brewery, but to be less facetious about it, if the guy moves is he going to refuse to drink any beers brewed in his former town/county/state of residence because they are now no longer craft enough? Drink local and drink craft aren't the same sentiment.

I was born and raised Californian and I don't like Hoptimum. That being said, I look forward to Celebration every year. I think that's their best beer.

Right there, that's my beef with SN. Here in my rustic little corner of New England, I never see it in the store at less than three months old and often much older. I'm pretty sure it's that old when it gets stocked. Where's it been all that time? Wherever it was, I can about guarantee that it wasn't refrigerated.

Yes we know from the recent SN thread you do not like their beers. This thread is about whether SN is "craft enough" and someone refusing freely offered beer because its not hyper local enough

Maybe he was watching his weight and didn't want to say it, so bashing Sierra Nevada was the optimal choice. Hoptimum is high in alcohol and calories.

What Nigth Shift did you drink? Ironically Night Shift has their own distribution company now...does your buddy know that his local brewery is bringing in MORE evil non-local brews?

Haha the problem isn't your SN beer isn't craft enough for those guys, it's that you aren't hipsterish poser enough for those guys. Never be surprised by the hipster posers who have made craft beer their venue of arrogance, they are an infestation that shouldn't surprise anyone.

The OP certainly doesn't need to take the declined offer personally...but saying SN is not "craft enough" is the absolute height of douchery. The individual is unequivocally a jackass. And I say this with certainty from 1000+ miles away and no human interaction with the individual in question :astonished:
