My brother and I are planning on this in about a month from now...we want to limit it to six....less if there are not six worthy..staying away from Imports due to freshness issues....going to be all MN made...

    Three we have for sure:

    Schell
    Utepils
    Fair State

Considering Enki and Town Hall....Summit is out...

Any others we should be looking at?

Town Hall always puts out a few solid Hefeweizen's each year. Aside from what's already been listed who else makes a Hefeweizen in Minn?

ENKI Hootenanny was decent the last time I had it and is worth including just to expand the field. OMNI has a hefe as well. Did Surly brew Heathen Temple again this year?

    Schell
    Fair State
    Steel Toe

All are worthy. I'm not sure what I'd add.

I would definitely put Minneapolis Town Hall in and Enki and Steel Toe just to round out the lineup. If I remember right Northbound's Hefe is pretty good. Excelsior has brewed the style before and I liked one that they did. 612 has one in cans but it is not good and not to style. A hefe dry hopped with Sorachi Ace. U4ic has one but it is a smoked hefe. Take 16 has one that has good reviews but I do not think that is available outside of extreme SW MN.

Bad Weather made a really good Bavarian hefe last summer. I liked it as much or better than most of the others that have been named so far. I'm sure it will be back this summer

Take 16 Hayloft is a must in my book.

I'll have to try the Enki one, bc the others are definitely my favorite. From multiple suggestions, I may have to try Steel Toe again, however in the past I found it very underwhelming (and I'm a big fan of them in general).

I would have to say that Fair State's Hefeweizen is very underwhelming. It has to be the lightest, most transparent and thin-bodied version I have ever had. IMHO.

I had it once a couple years ago and thought it was good. Schells and TH are my favorite and have enjoyed a few growlers utepils.

I agree on Steel Toe...we included it last summer in a different blind taster with fair State, Summit and a couple German one's and it was clear and away the bottom one. Not Summit bad but not deserving of being invited to the Big Dance. More NIT level.

I know that you want to stick to MN but if you cross the border, Dancing Man by New Glarus is top notch...

That is a nice list but if you want to venture north a little ways then maybe try one from Jack Pine in Brainerd.

I know, I need to get up that way sometime.

Also need to find the Take 16 Hayloft. A few of their beers I can find near me, but not that one I don't think.....

I've never seen them do a hefe at Jackpine. Do you know what they call it?
