The guy who sold me Doom said he had recently tried a bottle from the 2013 run. He said it was crazy how well it held up. I'll probably keep a bottle around for a few years from this run to see how it does with some age on it.

I had it at Founders fest 3 years ago and absolutely loved it. Others were telling me I wasted my tickets and should have tried Doom, or any of the multiple firkins they had going. Every sip was just full of flavor. I say it has a Whiskey sour flavor.

    Thought this beer was disgusting.

Tasted like musky bourbon cotton candy. Not pleasant.

Wish they'd take FIS and age it and they'd likely have a gem.

And for a barrel aged series I was hoping they'd use more than just bourbon barrels.

I thought it was enjoyable and unique. From my tasting notes (after only 1/2 of the first bottle, so this is subject to change):

    • Caramel and whiskey in the intitial taste, it starts to get a little sweet, but as soon as it does, the bitterness in the middle puts a quick stop to that. Nicely balanced between the barrel / whiskey flavors, the malty sweetness, and the hops bittering. The finish is where the bittering dominates, but still the initial flavors linger as well.

This is a unique beer, and those looking for a traditional IIPA will criticize the flavors. Those looking for a BA stout will criticize the bittering. No point complaining becasue it is not a BA Founders Imperial Stout, because it isn't and is not intended to be.

We can only hope that we get a big enough drop of cbs. I just hope they announce what day it is sold in stores, like kbs, so I can line up.

Based on the other releases, the exact date of release will vary. Production is reportedly less than KBS, but could still be increased from previous CBS releases.

    I enjoyed Doom but I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen it in a 4-pack; just 750 ML.

I guess I just have to hope for low bottle limits so it can last a day.

If you're talking KBS and you haven't found it yet, you probably won't until next year. Doom is still just hitting some markets, hitting here Tuesday or Wednesday. If you're talking CBS, it's not out until December.

Scored a 4 pack last Friday. $16.99. Like $18.25 after tax. Pretty solid beer...I think. Drank it on Saturday after about 6 Born Again Yesterday so will have to have it again when I'm a little more clear headed to get a clearer impression.

It's called your misinterpreting what I said. Founders is a great brewery, and has a great aging program. But think what you want to think!

    My apologies for misinterpreting.

When you said Founders needs to tweak recipes, retire recipes and figure things out perhaps I wrongly assumed you knew things Founders didn't.

I thought you used fairly clear language, what part did I misinterpt?

Meaning these weren't new beers, but haven't been brewed in a few years. So maybe they wanted to tweak the recipes of these beers, because they weren't exactly what they were wanting the first time through. Aging beers is an experiment, and I am glad they are experimenting. But you have to tweak recipes while experimenting. This market needs experimental beers, as the market is flooded with a bunch of the same stuff.

So I did not mis-interpret. You think that Founders needs to to figure things out and tweak recipes. Got it.

Thanks for chatting and clearing that up.
    Cheers!
