My option is not on the list-
Snap to my senses and say "What the F am I doing in line?, I hate lines, there's plenty of good beer out there without lines".

Its the bad part of the culture that waiting in line brings that bothers the anti-line crowd. Hoarding, muling, drinking in public, cutting in line, paid line-waiters, littering, noise, public urination, etc. With some breweries, only the most extreme part of the culture gets the beer, people who just want to get good beer without going to extremes get shut out.

I think, as @JackHorzempa pointed out in response to the same post, it's often a reaction to some of the other negative things associated with lines, not just a direct dig at people willing to line up. And in many cases (ie weekly or biweekly releases of beer in large quantities vs an annual release of a BA stout with 1pp limits), without the negative crap there would be no need for a line to begin with. I do agree though that taking the time to bash people just for the fact they're willing to line up, is weak.

    I've tried that:

"Ah, @#$%, it's just the Post Office at Christmas time!"

"Party of 2, please... No, I'm not interested in applying for Unemployment Insurance. Why do you ask?"

"Renew my auto registration? But I'm driving a rental."

Or if you really want to stand in line with your buddy, give up your spot and move back in line where he is.

If it was a good enough acquaintance and only 10 people back, I'd probably ask/tell the people around me that I was going to go chat with my buddy until the line started moving. I actually did something similar once to run back to my car for some reason or another.

While I don't wait in lines for beer very frequently (I guess that makes me cooler than the people who do it a lot, but not quite as cool as the people who don't wait in line because "it's just beer"), on the occasions I have, I typically strike up conversation with the people around me, so it's not really a big deal to tell them I'm going to do X for a couple minutes but will return to my spot, whether that be running to my car, grabbing some coffee, or chatting with a friend who's a few spots back in line.

But I am glad all the people who are too cool to wait in line aren't too cool to let everyone know they don't wait in line.

Here is the better question as we progress in the 21st Century: If you see my line holding robot waiting, do you honor it or do you cut in front of him? Just trying to figure out whether to add the optional flame thrower or not.

No need for the optional flame thrower. Instead choose the only slightly more expensive option of having your line waiting robot capable of paying for and then delivering to you your alloted bottles/cans.

But, on second thought you might consider the flamethrower option in case someone sends their high-end line crashing robot to the release.

I despise waiting in beer lines, or for that matter any lines. With me, though, if I ever do wait in a line it isn't because of FOMO, but KJWTFIAG (Knowing just what the fuck I am getting)

I, like you, live in an area that means I have no need to wait on line to drink the finest beers, but if Ithaca ever bottles the last barrel(s?) of LeBleu you will find me sleeping in the lot the night before release..

Seriously? You've never heard of a hard to get beer? You are completely unaware such a thing as lines for certain items, including beer, exist? You need to get out more.

Ask the guy who is next to me in line, who I probably already stuck up convo with, if he can hold my spot while I say whats up to my buddy for a few mins and grab a pint on tap. Return to spot in line with an extra plastic cup and offer him some of the pint I just got on tap.

*note of clarity: do not sip the pint until after pouring the line-mate his share

And, you'll likely be behind me. That's one of the beers I would give serious consideration about line standing for. Stuff was amazing the one time I had it.

I agree that a good part of it is behavior and the stories we have seen, read, or heard about. A farmhouse brewery near me recently resorted to issuing a set of "rules" that included respecting the privacy of the owners and staying away from their house; keeping kids supervised and not throwing rocks at things like livestock, staying in the designated areas where people are supposed to be, not parking on the highway, not arriving two to three hours before opening, not bringing dogs to a working farm, not smoking and littering the place with the residue. Sounds like they haven't found people peeing in the bushes yet...

I read the thing and thought what a shame they have to state the obvious when everything they wrote is basic manners. Yes - they are a victim of their own success and the resultant hype train to some extent, but that doesn't give customers any entitlement or license behave poorly. In this particular case, you know you are going to a farm brewery. If you have even done ten seconds of basic research you know people live there, work there, and there's livestock and property that should be respected. People can't even think of this on their own anymore? It's basic respect. I guess I shouldn't be surprised - I have caught people taking rock from my stonewalls, cutting trees on my property, digging up wheelbarrows full of dirt, plants, etc.

I don't care if people wait in line - it is their choice and I respect their right to choose. Line waiting isn't my cup of beer, which is just as equally my right of choice. But I don't like reading/hearing of things that reveal the worst aspects of our community (or us as human beings in general) whether it is beer or anything else people line up to obtain.

In the particular case of the OP - yeah, a wave and catch you later or asking someone to hold your place if you want to drop back seems appropriate (only problem with that is the people behind are gonna think you are cutting the line when you resume your spot).
