New to Ohio (2017)

Expect a ridiculous tap list.

 

Probably three or four 12 packs sitting at my local Krogers two days after "hitting". I think they were only $17 or so. $24 is ridiculous. The beer is not good enough to warrant splitting the 12 pack and jacking up the price imo.

 

no, Lakewood, but the sign said now open Sundays so maybe people just aren't aware.

 

I've been to the Lakewood location 3 times now and saw no more than 2 other people each time. Nice to get to have good conversation with the bartenders and have my pick of the bottle cooler, but just kinda insane with how good their beers and meads are.

Any of their BBA meads are fantastic and since I like some heat, Blood Magic is probably the best mead I've ever tasted. Tentadora is awesome too, and I'm someone who was terrified of another "cherry syrup" beer that so many cherry adjunct beers taste like. This was nothing like that at all though.

If you want a real treat, grab a bottle of the unlabled Quad from Lakewood. Supposedly their 2014 version. Fantastic.

Surprised to see so much love for their meads. Had quite a few and only one or two that were good, let alone fantastic. Maybe I've been drinking too much Schramms/Superstition (as if that was a thing).

 

The Lakewood Bottlehouse's small number of customers has been commented on before. Lakewood just has too many other nearby options compared to Cleveland Heights imo.

 

That's why I want to go! If I recall correctly last years tap list was by far the best I've ever seen. Has this years been announced anywhere?

Trying to gauge if its going to be a crowded clusterfuck or not as I'd be coming with wife, 1.5 year old daughter, and in laws. If it gets super packed I may need to convince the in laws to stay home and babysit.

 

There is no doubt in my mind that it won't be a clusterfuck.

Small City is a cool place though... I would much rather go on a "normal" day and avoid all the people. Loaded tap lists and such don't excite me though, personally, so I am probably not the best person to comment. Give me a tried and true favorite and I am happy!

From my experience going there a few times now...for as crazy as the lists get (I went to the two year anniversary party last year) its never overly crowded at all. The restaurant side is huge so there is no shortage of tables. We got there hours after it opened and I had no problem ordering full glasses of everything they opened with (including Weasel Nutsmasher and BA Nutsmasher). Expect a line at open for people getting bar seats. If you don't mind grabbing a table, show up whenever you want. They have pretty good food as well and it's right in the heart of town by the lake.

 

University Heights Heinen's has Great Lakes Rackhouse BA Strong Ale growler fills for $15. I've never had a GL strong ale and this tasted very smooth and balanced.

Also the Pepper Pike store has Oro Negro @ $23 according to their website.

I should have grabbed that quad, I had it in my had. Bartender said they do get busy on weekends. hope they make it, they age all their sours there (but they didn't have any on draft, my one complaint). Picked up a Brett IPA, the La Tentadora and another one.

 

It will be busy and steady all day, I'd imagine. They're also using that day as the grand opening for a new adjacent bar, which will provide extra square footage and hopefully some reprieve from the main bar.
I've said this before, but I'd wager that their normal tap list (on any given day) is the best in the entire State. The Anniversary parties are just put on steroids.

Is the full tap list posted somewhere? I'm not in Dayton but was supremely impressed when I checked it out when I was in town last fall. Food was good too.
