Haven't seen a thread like this and ran across some Parabola 2017 for $10.99 a bottle. I typically buy 12 or more of hyped beers and sometimes it would bite me in the ass. So... $10.99/bottle, deal or no deal?

$132 for 144 ounces of beer I don't know if I'll like = no deal.

Why not just grab 1 or 2 bottles to start with?

Only available online, the shipping cost for 1-2 bottles is absurd, and by the time I receive it (5-7 business days) it could be sold out.

Basically I'm asking those who have had it if this price is worth it. I love BCBS, BA Ten Fidy, and many other BBA stouts. I've heard mixed reviews that it's good but not great.

Parabola would definitely fall within my Top Ten beers of all time. Well worth the $10.99 price. I jumped at the chance to buy a bottle a couple months ago at $13.50, but I did only buy one.

I've had Abacus, the predecessor to Parabola, and I paid $8 for a snifter on tap. That's NOT how I generally enjoy beers like that so a bottle would be much better for me. I think it should age quite well so $10.99 would be a no-brainer. Buying 12... well that I'd personally have to question, but if that's your standard then go ahead! Myself, I'd consider 3 or 4, maybe even 6, and try to find some other beers to fill out the shipping container. Let us know who you got it from after you place your order.

The 2017 version is in 12 oz bottles and I believe made in MO :grimacing:

That said it's excellent as usual, so assuming you can afford it and shipping doesn't kill you, worth it!

I paid $8.99 for a bottle to try it, for me, Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout and Finally Legal come in at half that price and were as good or better than Parabola. Its the thinness of Parabola that gets to me, not that I want syrup but I definitely want some body in a beer that big. For me it would be no deal.

Depends on the availability of other good BA stouts where you are. For me, it's an easy skip. There are so many amazing BA stouts in Chicago.

I didn't like 2017 parabola. Maybe it was the Missouri thing or maybe this years just wasn't that good.

I'd agree that it depends on what good BA beers are available to you and is $145 disposable income for you?...With that being said, I drove to Vegas from SLC to pick up some bottles and have not regretted it for a second. Its an awesome beer.

    Really? At Boulevard?

I finally got a bottle of Parabola this year, and believe the shop still has a second one for me. Not sure if I should stock up on it based on other folks statements. I'm just hesitant to stock up on something I've never even tried.

Wasn't Abacus the predecessor of Sucaba?

Parabola is usually a very nice brew, and for that price, it's a very good deal. Go for it.

    Cheers!

BCBS and BA Ten Fidy are some of my favorites and having had 2017 Parabola (parabola in general) for the first time, I thought it was top tier.

I would buy one more, but it's really not that great. Just my opinion

Yep, hence the name "Sucaba" is simply "Abacus" spelled backwards. Abacus was only bottled unde that name once, in 2011.

Once again the fool is let loose!

But wow, I thought we were talking about big bottles anyway, its being in a 12 oz. now changes the equation. I'd consider one or two, maybe even three, but not any more than that. And maybe that 8 oz. of Abacus at the bar wasn't that bad of a deal after all... ?

Get over yourselves - we get it up here, and it's 35-ish dollars a bottle. Pass.
