Amen, that's really all that matters.

I was just ball busting but yeah if you're a designer I can see where the disappointment comes from. It's still only their first can release. Old treehouse cans were just as boring as these but as the business grows and the money comes in faster maybe they'll put more money into designs.

Not caring about the label just shows a general sloppiness toward your business in general. Obviously the beer is first and foremost, but anyone who says the label doesn't matter probably doesn't run a successful business.

I know, I'm just beating a dead horse at this point because its disappointing to me knowing they have such a great product. I'm sure as they make new beers they will make the change.

They have such a clean logo, I figured a slick label would be the easy part

You can only comment on the label if you like it.

I created a FB group: Equilibrium Brewery Trading and Fan Page. Feel free to join, I'm one of the Admins, there's a ton of great traders already in the group, along with Pete and a number of other Equilibrium staff.

We all know its more important to get a photo of your beer on Instagram than it is to actually drink it. I don't want a stream of ugly labels clogging up me feed.

I would agree with your statement IF the product was being marketed to the masses and was a shelf item trying to distinguish itself from the competition. None of that applies here and, quite frankly, may never. They have a select consumer group who buy their product for whats inside not how cool or cute the label is.
I wonder if you would consider what the monks at Westvleteren brew as successful. You should see THAT label....

That isn't a fair comparison. Westvleteren relies on nearly two centuries of reputation. And they are not interested in growing the business, only in selling enough to keep the monastery open and functioning (along with other religious/philanthropic efforts).
Equilibrium is a business in the traditional sense of the word. The point of a business is to make money and to create more demand for their product. Most of that will come from the quality of the beer, but to discount the importance of branding is naive. Almost all of the big brewery-released-cans right now have pretty distinctive looking labels. It helps draw in new customers and it makes the product more appealing to existing customers.

    Cheers!

The Westvleteren labels are also arguably better than these Equilibrium ones. Just seems very out of place given their thoughtful, scientific approach to brewing great beers.

The labels don't matter. The cans will still sell out. As long as it has all the legal requirements. These beers will not stick around because of a sticker label someone printed off their computer.
    Business model:
    -beer nerds like hazy ipas.
-crank out high priced cans with shitty label
    -beer nerds line up
    -cha ching!
-bring wheelbarrow full of money to bank
    -repeat
    -eventually get nice labels

I only have a one person sampling, but if they want to extend their customer base then they are going to need to make something other than grapefruity beers.

If the labels are sub par, and I'm not sure that they are, I agree with the posts that it's really not an issue in this case.

And that Omnipollo posted, that label wouldn't result in me picking it off the shelf.

They posted a picture a few weeks back of a stout they had fermenting, so different styles are on the way.

When I see bullshit sticker labels I assume it means they chose something they can easily change, which means they can pulse out new beers every other week like veil and other half which is basically my favorite thing in this industry/ culture , more new shit more often. The brewery opened like a month ago and when they opened all anyone said was "cans cans can sup wit cans bruh sup wit tradez brah sup with cans4canzbro. sup wit whalezcanzbruh" Now theres cans but everyones worried about the labels. I wonder if brands like Lagunitas had these type of comments , If I did I would change my label to say something like "shut up and drink" like I'm sure Lagunitas or Stone wouldve in a time where people had balls.
Everyone's got an opinion, that's why this site exists, doesn't mean most of those opinions ain't dumb as shit.

It's times like these I wish I had a car...

If anyone lives in NYC and getting a bunch of cans, please DM me if you don't mind selling some

I do agree that the labels are kind of whack but being as this is their first release, I'm sure at some point they're branding will match how delicious their beer is.

And again...this doesnt apply to this particular brewery. Its early in the game for these guys, what they need to do is brew outstanding beer. They can always up their label game whenever they wish. It's not like youre buying a car, or clothing, jewelry etc. Its a can that going into the recycling bin. At this point the vast majority of their consumers only care about the beer. With the exception of a few label nerds

    Exactly...

I made a negative comment about the labels but I still went! Got there at 5:20. No line, everything available. No line for pours either. Great experience.

I stand by my label comment though. As a one of thing to get started canning it's fine, but i would think over the long term you would put more thought into design.
