So I went and tried the Oat Tao because I wanted to see what the debate was about here. It reminded me of that taste you get in your mouth after throwing up. Luckily I only bought a 4 oz. Totally gross.

I think I heard someone at the store say that they were gonna do something like 32 cases of it a day? I don't quite remember, but it sounded like they'd have it all the time.

Walked into the general store last night around 6:30 and the fridge was 75% stocked with Hophands, canned the day prior.

And yet you gave it a 3.00 on Untappd (I'm guessing that's you because your comment is the same). This speaks to the inaccuracies of beer ratings. Not trying to criticize you personally. While there are plenty of good ratings where the individual comments that they liked the beer, there seem to be a lot of people with quite negative comments who either decide not to rate the beer, or give a 2.5-3.5 for a beer they clearly didn't like at all.

The end result is an average 3.80 rating so far for this beer.

I wouldn't say that beer ratings are inaccurate, I always say ratings are entirely subjective and can only be used as a frame of reference for the writer of the review. The points mean something different to everyone that uses them.

For example, for my ratings on Untappd I use a system where the caps actually have a meaning to me.

no rating - not enough information, I suspect I received the wrong beer, or I don't trust the tap lines are clean (always add a note specifying)
1 - Horrible, I would recommend never trying this beer
2 - Not good, would not recommend
3 - OK, decent beer, average rating...try it or not
4 - Very good,I would recommend you try this beer
5 - Excellent, I would seek this beer out, or always order it if it's available, you should definitely try it

It's likely that this does not match your rating system, but if you were to ask me what I thought about a specific beer and I didn't remember off the top of my head then I pull up Untappd and I can give you my opinion of whether or not I would recommend you try that beer. In any case, you really need to try the beer to form your own opinion unless you trust and know the reviewer's personal likes/dislikes.

I've contemplated not rating things for this exact reason, taste is subjective. The only thing i've noticed is really horribly rated beers (aka red wine void) are almost always accurate. I try and look at beer like music, there is a time and place for all genres. May not be your preference but hey if you're drinking all day long you'd drink something different than if you were having a single beer on a weeknight, yardwork beers, etc.

I have a bias rating too, beers I can't live without get 5 caps aka Prima Pils and a few other shelfies.

There is also a Tired Hands Inflation factor where pretty much any Tired Hands beer on Untappd you can expect to be about 0.3-0.5 higher than it really should be. (And Tired Hands is not the only brewery that has this phenomenon.)

Drank a bottle of Obliterative, it was kind of a disappointment. They have wild/sour beers on tap at the Ferm on any given day that are significantly better. Any chance they're bottling the ones that aren't as good, ensuring they get rid of them and make some $$$? Cynical thought but I've wondered it before.

I didn't mind Oat Tao. It seemed kinda like a pumpernickel or rye bread sour if I recall, not that that's even a thing. Lots of malt with a solid amount of funk, but not malty like stoutish dark sours. I do feel like that beer could've worked with a pastrami or corned beef on rye with some mustard and a few pickles.

It might not have been very successful, but at least it was something new. I'll give Tired Hands credit for pushing the envelope a bit and rather than appease the beer geek masses like so many other breweries with more stouts, sours and hops (which they also do), they're trying to push the boundaries a bit. Just look at the Milkshake series, how often do any of us get surprised by an IPA at this point? The Milksaint Fiver has been great, it's rare you see a beer change that much in flavor as it warms up, particularly an IPA.

That being said, it was probably my least favorite beer I had there last weekend. But I loved just about everything I had, and we had a blast. The Coffee Origins and Emptiness were stellar.

So, I think what is a happening here is that, yes, he thinks throwing up is totally gross but he kinda likes the way it tastes afterward. Therefore...3.0 rating on Untappd.

I hit tired hands hard yesterday. Oat tao was tied for my favorite with tongue extinguisher. Oat tao had a great earthy funk to it and a chewy mouth feel. I also got some lambic notes in there. Ended up ordering a half pint then a full pint of it. The DIPA was delightful and monkish level soft. The regular saison was lovely too especially with their spicy banh mi. I didn't care much for the hop hands. Far too bitter for a hazy beer and too much pine.

I thought space race ipa from crime and punishment was at the same level as tongue extinguisher in terms of what I expected though the double ipas there weren't up to that level. Overall glad I hit both breweries.

Been a while since I've posted here but it was also a while since having any Tired Hands, couple thoughts:
The BIRTH DAY concert ruled. Got there early with some buds and made our way around to each of the bars. Things went smoothly to start as each of us would get three glasses of a different beer and then we would take everything back to our table so we didn't have to wait in line. Jean Hands was by far my favorite of the night but it was also awesome just being at a concert and drinking extra vanilla milkshake and other tired hands. One of our crew didn't last the night as he had been following the hammer all day around the city before we started slamming 7% beers at the show. He missed Baroness which was an awesome set and if any of the guys from the Veil read this thread it was awesome moshing with you.
Skipped the rest of the weekend's events.
Went around 8pm to the ferm on Thursday and picked up some church with no wait and then went over to the general store before they closed at 9. Bought a BIRTH DAY poster and a bottle each of: Prayer Group, Undertow, Obliterative, and Eyes Open and Closed. Prayer Group is easily my favorite lager that they have made, refreshing and smooth. Obliterative was great too with a clean finish yet great mouthfeel. The cooler was about a quarter still stocked with HopHands, so awesome that is a thing now. Cheers everyone and now just looking forward to the csa starting.

Quick question for Tired Hands regulars. I thought that can releases were typically on Wednesdays, but last week they released on a Thursday. Is this the new normal? Reason I ask is because I'm planning on coming down from Connecticut on Wednesday. It will be great to see the store and try out the Ferm, but it would be a great added bonus if there was a can release. Any info you can provide would be appreciated, thanks.

I think it was staggered a day because they wanted to allow for more focus on the anniversary taps. Typically Thursday releases are on Holiday weeks that fall on Sun/Mon or bigger releases. I would not consider this the new gospel.

Agreed, I think Wednesday is still the day. I will admit though I liked the Sunday releases too, great way to stagger can sales.

Had my first Alien Church can last night...really good IPA. Got a growler of the Birthday Cake Double Milkshake DIPA and didn't love it. It was solid but pretty boozey as it warmed.

Really weird, as I had a pour Saturday BDW at open and it wasn't super cold but I didn't pick up a ton of booziness but when I got a growler a few days later for a share it was like I was drinking bottom shelf vodka. Really disappointing. Milksaint Fiver on the other hand...

Yeah I heard that one was awesome. Looking forward to trying more Tired Hands brews. Eviscerated Pathway of Beauty was awesome as well. Tasted like orange juice.
