This is basically an overflow of Biglobo's noob BIF due to high demand. Please don't join this one if you are already in his.

This is for true BIF Noobs only as there are a lot of new traders looking to get into BIFs. Trading experience is ok, great/preferred even, but you should have 0 BIF experience.

Size: This will be intentionally kept small and manageable - 10-12 people including myself.

Cost: Target $25-$30, and please don't go over $35 max on the beer.

Swag: 1 glass of your choice (local pint is totally fine)

Number of bottles: No min/max, but stick within the costs and the goal is for a nice sampling of local beers. I'm envisioning something like 8-12 12oz bottles and two bombers, but it's completely up to you. Just hit the cost target and provide some nice variety.

What to Send: It's always great to knock off wants, but that's not really the point of this BIF. This is more about learning the ropes and sending nice locals. Some of you will likely be able to hit wants, and some of you won't - that's ok - don't stress about it. Just focus on your favorite local beers. It is nice to read your target's profile though and look at their past reviews to see if they have had something and liked (or disliked it), or some people just don't like certain styles and usually note it. Try to send beers not available to your target.

What not to Send: Sadly this does need to be said. Don't send somebody your stale old leftovers sitting in the back of the fridge. Don't send IPA's more than 3 months old. Don't send beers with crappy scores on BA. (A minimum score of 3.5/80 is a good general guideline) When in doubt, fresh is best, and send something you'd like to receive yourself.

Ship Date: By signing up you guarantee to ship the week of March 26th. Nobody likes waiting for the last box, and by being in your first BIF you certainly don't want to get a rep for being the late guy (or gal). So if you want to sign up, plan on putting your best foot forward and shipping on time. If you can't make it there will be other BIFs.

Signup: Send me a private conversation with the following info:
    Name
    Address
    Email Address
    Phone Number

You are not in until you hear back from me.

That's it. My only other request is you participate. Once targets are assigned I'll startup a hints and hauls thread.

And PLEASE ask questions. Most problems can be taken care of easily before they happen with good communication. That's the point of this BIF - to get you out of it with full understanding of how BIF's work so you can move on to the larger BIF world.

    Cheers!

#10 is pending info and there are 2 spots left. At this point I'm going to give preference to the west coasters for the last two spots, as we otherwise have a healthy mix of east coast and places in between.

One spot left. Hopefully one more west coaster will see this tonight and we'll be locked and loaded by the morning.

I should have targets out tomorrow.

And we are all closed up at 12. Targets will be out later today, at which point I will post a "hints and hauls" thread. That's where the fun really starts. Here's a good post in the other Noob BIF thread about hints:

    Cheers and thanks all!

Awesome, it's nice to see the -IF forum getting some more action (and introducing fresh blood, of course). Looking forward to seeing the hauls!

    cbeer88,
So can you explain what hints and hauls are? Since this is my first time, I'm not up to date with the lingo!

Sure - pretty simple really. It's just another thread with two parts.

Hints: Everybody posts hints so their target can try to guess who is sending to them. For example "my box is going to travel 2400 miles". Or, "my target seems to really like The Bruery". Or, "my target lives less than 10 miles from an airport". Hints can be as vague or specific as you want, but you usually want to tease them a bit. Start with vague hints and drop 3-4 over the next two weeks that get gradually more specific. By the time your box lands, some people might guess it and some people won't. Being that this is a Noob BIF with some true Noobs in it, there's no harm at all at being very blunt a day or two before the box is scheduled to arrive so people can guess it pretty easily and plan for it.

Hauls: When somebody receives a box, they post the contents with a picture.

    Best shown by example:
    http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/anti-whale-brand-new-noob-bif-hints-and-hauls.5041/

Those are some good hints from the other Noob BIF starting up right now.

Here's a huge hauls thread from the recent Super Bowl contest:

You all should have just received your targets. Please double check that you got a real target and not yourself by accident. Lots of copy and pasting there...

Also, if you did not receive a target and thought you were in this BIF, please let me know ASAP.

Hints and Hauls thread coming up!
