    Hey what's going on?!

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been out of the country for a bit, I was in Southern France for a good chunk of time and was a bit busy seeing eating and drinking all the wonderful things. I did have my fill of beer too, but didn't have much time for reviewing though here were some highlights:

options to get interesting beer though are pretty tough, the bigger cities provide some choices, but also the quality is a bit far behind. I had to admit I was so happy when I got back to America to drink beer and go shopping again.

There were some good ones though, an excellent stout, being in the Camargue region which had a VERY good brewery (beer with chestnuts!) who had an excellent single hop Bavarian Mandarina Pale/IPA brew. That was really out of nowhere and was done very well.

Right now though, I am back in the heat and in the swing of things, and ready to enjoy another NBS.

So what's new for our hero today?!?!

Pounder Pils | Heavy Seas Beer

    Heavy Seas - Pounder Pils
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    ------------------------

Poured from the can into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

Deep brass gold and crystal clear body appearance, with lots of pinhead effervescent bubbles. Head creation is a soapy bleach white, making just over two fingers tall. Shampoo minimal retention qualities, as it settles to a thin puck and bubbly collar. Vey nice looking pils.

Nose is a good simple one. Soft lightly sweeted malt body, with touches of bread dough. Slightly herbal hop angle but minimal. Touches a good bit of density and thickness for an aroma.

Palate gets the job done. Thick and pasty like body but with a good classic flavor. Stuck tasty white bread and malts with a somewhat clean finish. Minimal herbal push and light but noticeable bitterness. A slight touch of pasty yeast like qualities but nothing overly large.

A good simple stick to the basic pils that just gets it done

After traveling over Memorial Day, and going out of town for work twice since then, I'm finally home for awhile. Today I'm enjoying a bottle from my trip to the Upstate (South Carolina) two weeks ago.

Really impressed by the use of pineapple here. Plays well with the hops and yeast without being overwhelming. Crisp but not overly sour or bitter to my palate. I wish I had purchased more bottles.

I stopped at Carolina Bauernhaus on Sunday two weeks ago, and enjoyed several of their beers at the brewery.

Enjoyed the beers so much that I didn't post about them here.:stuck_out_tongue:
Anderson is a small city on I85 just south of Greenville. In addition to Carolina Bauernhaus, it has a growler shop and several beer bars. It has a nice, but unusual small-town vibe.

I love these country breweries in the Carolinas putting out quirky high quality beers.

Jersey's Best Dancer a 6.4 ABV "Kolsch-Enriched" IPA from Twin Elephant Brewing. I did not get to speak with the brewer but the server said it's a Kolsch hopped up to IPA levels. It's fermented "on the cooler side" and dry hopped with Riwaka, Belma and Jarrylo hops. Poured from a 32 oz growler into a tall Tulip this beer is a hazy pale orange with a thin white head that lasts about 4 minutes and leaves a nice lacing. It has a nice aroma of honeydew melon. Grapefruit is added to the melon in the taste and the finish is dry. The mouth feel is light. My guess is that "Kolsch-Enriched" means a light bodied NE IPA because that is what Jersey's Best Dancer is. It's 90 and as sunny as Las Vegas in North NJ this afternoon and I'm starting to wish I had gotten a 64 oz growler of this brew!

    Hello all you NBS folks!

This is for sure the most passionate thread on here and so glad to be able to Join you all today.

Today choice of beverage is a New England style Double IPA that has been Double Dry Hopped with Citra and Apollo hops. This beer was canned two days ago!

    Brewers Notes:
Double Dry Hopped Citrapollo is a 7.6% Double IPA hopped very generously with Citra and Apollo in the whirlpool. We then double dry hopped it with even more Citra and Apollo. Dank and tropical.

    My Notes:
Damn Haze for Daze! Certainly dank and tropical but theses also elements of resin and pine as well. As the beer warms up, more tropical fruits like passion fruit and lemon peel start to come out. And there is a slight yeasty bite on this one that I found common from time to time and thees styles of beers. But overall this beer is damn awesome!

    Cheers!

Free Will Brewing Co.'s Impromptu dance Party # 1, a wild ale
This deep amber tap pour has a wisp of fine foam and a citrus-oak nose. The flavors are many: pear and grapefruit are prominent; the tartness is moderate. Vinous notes and a bit of earth-wood are noted. This is appreciably complex. The finish is dry. This is so much more than a kettle sour or a Berliner-Weiss. I will visit this brew site and hope to share in Dance Party # 2 !

    on to the next.

Alpine Beer Co. - Windows Up IPA

Alpine Beer Co. - Windows Up
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Shimmering light bronze body, with very fine amounts of carbonation rising straight to the centre. Fluffy if a bit soapy white head, managing just a little ove two fingers and settling to just a one finger pine head bubbled soapy puck. Good glowing shimmering color.

Dank sticky nose of hop and earthy aromas. Slight touches of creamy vanilla and citrus as well, giving a nice balanced and diverse quality. Hints a touch of juicy territory but the dank wins out. Inviting and delicious.

Light bodied but with full rich flavor. Dank earthy hop bent, with a light but thick and dense contrasting palate. Large amounts of chlorophyl and herbal aftertastes. Mint, flowers, and spices. Mid touches of malt and vanilla, even a little bit of brown sugar balancing things out in the mix. Treacle and light syrup finish with herbs as well.

    Very nice full rounded IPA.

No I didn't I was in Provence, but was West of Marseille for most of it. Made it to Carcassonne and Lyon which are both awesome and a definite must go.

I'm having beer from a newer local brewery from Oaklyn, NJ(about 1 or 2 years old). Tonewood Brewing Co.'s Poolside Lager. They describe it as a "Mexican lager" on their site.

I know these guys are known for their turbid (and delicious) Fuego IPA but I'm surprised how hazy this one is for a Mexican lager. This looks more like a kellerbier. Flavor is similar to a kellerbier too, with the malts leaning on the sweet side with a raw, kinda doughy flavor. This one has German hops and they do their job adding a nice herbal hop bite near the end. Slightly dry finish, kinda crisp but not clean at all.

All in all it's pretty good but not what I was expecting. I'd love to try this filtered a bit more with maybe more lagering time (seems a bit "young"). I'd give it a 3.25/5

New Amer. IPA Sunday (Week 642)
Greetings fellow NBSers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Hot one here and no rain, both opposite conditions from the normal here for the last month. Just the right kind of day for a killer IPA, and anyone who has tried Foam Brewers knows they have been absolutely killing it. Gonna crank up the grill in a minute, thinkin' about some rib eyes for supper.

Television, another stellar beer from Foam. Not quite as good as their other two amazing hoppy pales I've tried, Pavement, and my current favorite IIPA, Built To Spill, but just a flavor explosion of hop goodness and refreshing excellence. Full review is here

Good afternoon, and happy New Big-ass-stout Sunday! A bit of a gloomy and drizzly day out here in not so sunny Southern California. Just the right temperature to do some planter gardening/ harvesting. Really looking forward to some BBQ'd home grown corn this summer, but bummed that I can't put my neighbors nectarines (pictured behind) to good use in my annual home brewed Saison on those bad boys in secondary. One of my favorite home brews.

Back to the weathers even better purpose, perfect for some stouts! Thank God because I have too many in the "cellar" that I need to start enjoying. This one comes courtesy of the great BA, @mschrei .

Very confused on the Swedish thing.

A: Pours oily and jet black with a dark tan foamy head that recedes and leaves a creamy espresso looking ring around the edge of the glass.

A: Molasses, tobacco, brown sugar, olive juice, and chocolate.

T: An initial burst of sweet molasses is quickly backed by dry burnt toast, leather (imagine chewing the strings of you baseball glove), and bitter chocolate, then finishes with iron metallic and alcohol flavors.

F: Rich and full bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet then bitter but ultimately feels balanced, plenty of alcohol warmth.

O: I really enjoyed this heavy hitter stout in a can. Definitely not your everyday stout, but perfect for those gloomy days where you just wanna put your feet up by the fire (pit, in my case).

Cheers everyone, and I will see you all soon!

EDIT: After my official review, I rated this a 4.21 with an rDev of +0.7%

    Mikerphone Brewery's Mikerphone Check 1, 2

Pours a hazy, turbid orange with a little shy of a finger of white head. Fair head retention with good lacing left behind. Aroma is heavy orange, citrus, tangerine, and peach. Flavor profile is citrus, orange, tangerine, peach, and papaya. There is a hint of biscuit malts there as well. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a velvety, creamy feel. Overall, lovely brew with hearty notes of citrus, and a slippery smoothness. Very tasty, and easy to drink. The large format is an interesting choice for this beer, but it makes for a lovely bottle to share in the heat.

Now we're working on a Jackie O's Mandala Single Hop DIPA.

This one is the Columbus hop variety.

Bit hazier than anything else today, as this orange, cloudy beer supports a nice off white head. Nose is a big punch of grassy up front with that dank fresh rubber thing rounding it out.

Taste begins with the fresh rubber and then morphs into a sweeter, honey taste before bitter dank creeps back in to finish the experience. Medium bodied for the most part and a more "wet" finish. Overall, this is a pretty complex examination of the hop. Nothing to really push the hop nuances out of the picture, yet there's a decent enough of a barley backbone to add depth without making it too sweet or depart from the hop character.

This beer is just what it says. Really good W.Coast DIPA.
Pours clean gold with nice thick head. After half way through the glass is beautifully laced.
Aroma is citrus and pine maybe a hint of clove. For a DIPA it hides its alcohol well.
Taste is sweet hop followed by mild bitter finish. In the mouth this thing impressive for such a hoppy beer. Coats the tongue well, carbonation level is perfect.
One of the better beers in the 12 pack.

Funny but.. true story.. when I was in high school my brother (12 years older) had two German Shepards. He went on vacation one year and left the dogs to me. Oldest one died. Next year, next vacation, next dog. I felt horrible and he new it. Many many years later he teases me about it now and then.
