Thanks man! Killed the hops this year, but at least the food is growing.

Let's be honest. I would still rather have the hops :slight_frown:.

    Good evening NBS folks!
    Great start by our @lordofthewiens
Man, I almost thought you were serious:slight_smile:
I am spending couple days in Kennebunkport. I picked up some awesome beer on the way from Industrial way in Portland.
I had a sip of this beer at the brewery but pouring a glass now for the first time.
Battery Steele brewing's Double dry hopped Kineo IPA.
    Hops: Vic Secret, Waimea, Motueka
All Australian and New Zealand hops.
Fresh burst of hop aroma comes through as I pop the can. Beer pours slightly hazy, not turbid at all with decent lacing and short lasting head.
I like the flavor profile of these hops a lot. They are not your typical OJ/pineapple juice style notes. Generous amount of pine, grass, weedy dankness and ending with lovely hints of lime zest.
Reminds me of Citra hopped beers.
This is a well constructed beer with a great balance of hop aromas and some rounding bitterness.
Delicious. Bright, piney and limes in the end.
    Very drinkable too.
    Cheers.

Happy New American Wild Ale Sunday!

Really nice day here on the Western Slope, sunny, really windy, around 88. Did a nice little hike, really windy. A very tasty brew today, hitting the spot really well. Got the indoor grill going with some chuck roast and some beef franks, potato salad.

    Howdy NBS folk!
It is finally damn hot here in Montreal and blustery as could be. I've been taking advantage and planting some flowers and whatnot to have a nice beer-cony to hang out on for the next few months. It's nice that it is finally convincingly summertime. In a couple more weeks my post will be whining about how disgusting and hot it is. Mark my words. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am now ready to wind down and have something dark and new to me. This beer came to me courtesy of an amazingly generous BA and I am just now getting around to it. No time like the present!
Dark Side Corruption is a dark ale aged in oak barrels brewed by Foundation.
It was described to me as a dark saison. I wasn't sure if that was a literal description, but seeing stone fruit listed on the label makes me wonder if it might have been. All told, I don't know what to expect but I am fairly sure it will be enjoyable.
Wowee! This is a really delicious, layered malt cake of a beer with a really nice, complimentary barrel character that is the icing on this supposed cake. It pours beautifully with big Belgian-looking head and sheets of foam insulation lace. It is about as rich as a beer could be in most every way. The nose is packed with dried fruits and old workshop aromas from the barrel. The flavor follows suit. The taste and the feel are where it really goes above and beyond. A cascade through fruity, caramely, light roasty, oaky, etc-y flavors with a soft boozy finish. I can't even think about how much better this would be if it wasn't hot out right now. I would definitely have this one again.

Founders All Day IPA. Yummy!! Kinda drinks like a pale. Nice and crisp with that little bit at the finish like a great pale does. Low abv and really is an all day drinker. Just wonderful from the can in the summer!!![IMG]

I've seen it in shops around my area for the last 4-5 years but never picked it up because it's seems like it's always there. Then when I wanted to try it I could not find and hit my local bottle shops last week. It's very good. Looking forward to aging some.

    Excellent action shot!

Love the garden. I am trying to ignore the tree so as not to be reminded of how awesome it is to live where citrus can thrive.

Watch your beer, that frog looks thirsty.

I've been really curious about this beer since I first saw it because it seems like a fusion of two pretty disparate (in my mind) "styles". Your review describes what I would hope it would be. Too much barrel and I would worry the hops would clash.

It doesn't have a big barrel presence, it's actually very hoppy, citrus forward, with a subtle barrel presence of bourbon, oak, and vanilla. I wouldn't say that it clashes with the hops but that the hops overwhelm the barrel. I was expecting more barrel than hops but it's actually hoppy and not much barrel presence at all.
I'm curiously wondering why barrel age a beer if the hops are going to overwhelm the barrel?

Thanks to @cjgiant for another great NOVA brew. On a little side note, I had Aslin's Briging Sexy Back yesterday and had almost the same impressions as @CanConPhilly this morning. Really tasty, and somewhere between a NEIPA and an East Coast IPA.

Tongue Tied, a DIPA from Ocelot Brewing Company
    [IMG]

Look: a very hazy but not turbid amber-orange. A fluffy off-white head stayed for a while.
Aroma: bright orange pith, ripe pineapple, and a fair amount of piney resin.
Taste: the danker notes opened with huge herbal, resiny, piney notes. The citrus followed soon and provided a nice counterpoint. Some grassiness was there but it melded well. A moderate, soft bitterness for the style. Dry, bready and biscuity malt presence.
Feel: a touch heavier than medium, but spot on for 8%. Soft on the palate. Slightly hot on the finish.
Overall: Outstanding! A great mix of herbal and citrus in which the flavors meld really well. Cheers and thanks again CJ!

    And go Preds!!

    Friends,
I present you my second New Beer.
Allagash Uncommon Crow: Brett Ale aged on blackberries.
Holy crow! The beer the inspired by the love of common crow for blackberry. Midnight wheat is used which reminds me of midnight Brett.
Beer pours brownish black, like the crow! Has a creamy tan head. Inhaling it, the Brett funk delivers. Wet horse blankets, hay, you gotta love that damp musty New England basement in spring, where the stingy home owner didn't bother to put a dehumidifier:slight_smile:
One sip and one is transported into the land of sour and funk. The sharp sour bite of blackberries hides the taste of funk.
As the beer warms, the berry notes shines through. It might be the most delicious blackberry lemonade (with a kick) that I have had.
Mouthfeel is soft, finish is long lasting.
    What a joy!
    Cheers [IMG]

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @lordofthewiens for getting us started off this morning. Pretty normal weekend over here. Did the laundry, dishes, and returned my empties this morning. Yesterday I made a solid haul of new beers. Really getting difficult lately, #5500 is in less than 2 weeks. Got some interesting Polish beers and other things. Glad the Sierra Nevada pack landed, it certainly has helped the situation. Did a bit of catch up work this afternoon as usual. Last week was not so busy. Hardly any emails the entire time. It's a scorcher out there this weekend. Strong storms in the forecast during the week, as would be anticipated after all this heat.

    New Beers:

Brazilian Gose. Way/Dogma/DUM collab. Brewed with Jabuticaba(Brazilian grapes?). This was really nice. Aromas and flavors of tart lemon, lime, green apple, pear, red grape, melon, sea salt, wheat, cracker, hay, grass, pepper, and light lacto funk. Moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness and yeast spiciness on the finish. Light bodied and medium-high carbonation. Very crisp, clean, and drying lactic finish. Balanced grainy wheat, lactic acid, and salinity in the mouthfeel. Touch of grape tannins. Slightly puckering. Super refreshing! Really spot on gose, pricey as hell for the can lol($6.49). Really well balanced flavors. 3.78
    [IMG]

Outstanding stuff! Amazing head retention and thick lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, lemon/orange zest, and light pepper/piney hops; with moderate honey, wheat, cracker, biscuit malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine/herbal/grassy/spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; perfectly balanced bready/grainy creaminess and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Slight resins and increasing bitter dryness, with zero hop astringency. Super drinkable, fairly crisp. Awesome hop vibrancy; fairly juicy/dank. Great malt balance without being sweet. They really nailed this one! Tastes like a cross between both coasts as advertised. Nicely bitter without being aggressive, and nice creamy malty presence. Really big fan. 4.18
    [IMG]

Just entered MI last week. Been wanting to try this for a long time. This was awesome stuff! Awesome head retention and lasting lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toasted coconut, vanilla, and brown bread; with light coffee, cream, and herbal hops. Light herbal hop and roasted bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied with a really great creamy/silky mouthfeel; some slight sticky hop and roast malt chalk. Slight bitter/roasted dryness. Super drinkable and quite refreshing. Really impressive richness and complexity for 6%. Great balance of coconut flavors, without feeling artificial or "sun tan lotion" as some tend to say. Expertly well made. Look forward to trying more of their beers soon. This will be seeing considerable fridge time with my recent coconut beer addiction. 4.13
    [IMG]

More new Clown Shoes. Outstanding stuff! Deep ruby/pink/purple hazy appearance. Fluffy lasting head and streaming carbonation. Plenty of thick lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart lemon, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, currant, red grape, melon, pear, apple, peppercorn, and light clove; with moderate wheat, lightly toasted biscuit malts; hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium body. Moderately crisp and increasing spicy/foamy dryness. Balanced bready/grainy malt and hop/yeast stickiness in the mouthfeel. Light tangy fruit tannins. Super refreshing and highly drinkable! Really spot on stuff! The balance between fruit and yeast character is great. A touch on the malty side for a saison, but there is no residual sweetness. Would gladly buy this again! 4.18

Howdie, NBSers. I have a pair of beers for your perusal, including a beer with Yuzu (a first for me, I'm pretty sure) .....

I have really enjoyed the SN collab pack thus far, and this is a nice beer, though not as good as most of the previous offerings I've tried, IMHO.

It pours a slightly cloudy golden straw color, with an off-white head. Looks like a white IPA? Check!

The Belgian yeast is apparent on the nose - a little funk to accompany the hops, and the coriander is also present. The nutmeg is MIA. I'm not aware of the aromas of Yuzu, so I can't discern whether that is present.

The taste is straightforward white IPA, and a fruitiness beyond the "standard" citrus hops that I'm assuming is coming from the Yuzu. The coriander is also present, and the nutmeg may have made an appearance, because there's a spicy note that I can't account for anywhere else.

This is a nice drinker on a steamy Texas evening. Rated 3.77.

Finally getting around to trying this session IPA.

Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch white head over a hazy, straw colored body with minimal lacing. Very nice nose of citrus, dank pine, and slight tropical fruit. Taste mirrors nose somewhat with a crisp, dry finish. Nice feel and overall, a nice sessionable little beer here. Cheers to those guys over in Hinesburg!

Fulton Hopstar session pale ale, 5%, love the trend of a 16 oz canned quality beer, double dry hopped, citra, mosaic and Amarillo, nice aroma, very citrusy and smooth, little bitter, no sign of malt but that's OK, easy drinking session and I'm good with that!

Hows it going BA? Had a couple new beers planned out for today but it has been seeringly hot and I've been working outside all day, now I'm to worn out and dehydrated to rate those big brews, instead I'll check out Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Ginger Lager. I've had several beers with ginger and not been a fan, but I love ginger "beer". Friend of mine home brews old school ginger ale and its spicy and delicious. Anyway lets see how this is.

Pours a beautiful clear golden amber with a two finger head that boasts decent retention. Some lacing.

Aroma of spicy ginger, bready and toffee malt, maybe a hint of the oak. Aroma is dominated by the ginger, but that fresh ginger smell is one I love.

Taste has a big hit of spicy ginger up front, not quite biting into ginger strong but a good punch, then its got a lightly sweet malt layering with toffee, biscuit/cracker, and a hint of caramel. Then the oak joins in with some nice oaky vanilla notes and tannins. A little earthy bitterness and back of the throat heat which I assume is mostly the cayenne.

Light to medium bodied, low soft carbonation, smooth, sweet.

Overall this is the best integrated ginger I've had in a beer, it's bold, it's spicy, it's tasty. Only real problems for me is the carbonation is too low, and the I think the cayenne is undo, ginger is spicy enough in its own way, and maybe it hangs a little too much on the sweet side and could be a little drier. Honestly though, I'm sad this is the only can of it I have, because I'd drink this any day of the week, especially with some Asian cusine (like masaman curry or sashimi).

    Cheers!

#2, a beer that went from Northwest Indiana to Minnesota to Texas, and finally to my glass .....

I picked this up at the brewery in December 2015, along with a bunch of their excellent Citra-hopped APA Deal With The Devil. I sat on this for 18 months, muled it approximately 1,400 miles, then decided to finally drink theirs big, brawny BA barleywine on a steamy hot Texas evening. That is all logical (or maybe not). I am REALLY excited to try this.

The beer pours a deep, dark brown color, very cloudy, with a dark tan head. Beautiful beer.

The aromas are toffee, caramel, some hops, and the bourbon. Will it be hot? Given the 11%+ ABV, it should be.

It is not. The bourbon is present, but it meld so well with the toffee and caramel notes, you forget it's there. That is REALLY difficult to execute, but 18th Street did it.

I think Central Waters does some outstanding stuff with their barrel-aging program and their scotch ale, barleywine, and imperial stout, but this beer is on that level. I wish I had another gallon of this exceptional beer. Rated 4.44.
