Ah beer festival music. Either basic bitch metal bands or the most generic local rock groups possible.

    I am digging DIM, though.

Only saw Platinum Boys, Night Beats and DIM. I'll have to check that band out.

They were the band who played last year. I don't really know much about the bands this year

Ah, okay, I didn't check out who played last year.

Others have already done so, but I have to second this. Big North was amazing. You walked in, got a can of Vallejo handed to you, and that was probably the least interesting beer I drank all day. Now, the morning after was not amazing. Full pours of beers like Benthic and Big Hugs is a bit crazy.

My buddy can't go this year, and I think I'm likely to skip it as well. Gonna try for Mornin Delight - which was maybe the only beer thing I did last year that topped this one. But that was a crapshoot lottery where I got lucky, whereas for Big North we bought tickets almost a week after they went on sale.

Edit: Just checked - Mythic was the name of a wild ale they had at this thing that I thought was phenomenal.

You should still definitely check out twin peaks. Saw them on a whim at sxsw a few years ago and they were awesome. I became an instant fan. Even moreso when I found out they were from Chicago They actually were a sub-headliner at Pitchfork last year.

If you like dirty guitar at all, you'll like the band.

It was pretty good last year. Most definitely not one of the best beer events out there.

That being said, we will be going again.

It was fun for sure. Half Acre beers aren't my favorite, the Benthic variants were cool, and they throw a good party.

Really want to go to Big North, but this is a hard sell to my friends that are not as hardcore craft beer drinkers. Feel like it's still hard to justify spending $70 for drinks and one meal.

Is it just Half Acre beers?

People spend hundreds of dollars to listen to guys playing other people's songs. Put it in that perspective haha

I didn't go last year to The Big North but decided to buy a ticket and check it out this year. From most feedback, it sounds like the money and time was well worth it last year. I am a big Half-Acre fan also and enjoy vast majority of their beers. But even if it does somehow disappoint, I've wasted way more money on far more useless shit.

So it seems like everyone is saying it is worth it because they do full pours of beers. My question is, do they do smaller pours as well? As great of a deal unlimited full pours are...there is a point where I still want to be coherent haha I know totally square of me.

Nah, I agree. I don't want 10 oz. (or whatever a full pour is) of Benthic every time, that's just going to cut down on how much I actually want to drink (volume-wise, not even discussing abv).

Last year, most pours were full, but I did get a few half pours on the higher ABV beers. It varied based on the person pouring the beer, but I'm sure anyone would be happy to give a half pour if you specifically asked for it.

As for the cost, it doesn't take much to spend $70 on dinner and drinks in this city. Factor in live entertainment and a 5 hour event, it is pretty easy for me to justify.
