You tell them how much you want. They aren't going to force an extra half pour on you if you don't want it.

Why I think it is great is because you get real bands and not some guys yelling nonsense in a mic, not have to wait in lines all day for beer and you are getting all of your favorite HA beers for 5 hours and you can pace yourself however you want. They also don't oversell the event and even when it rained for 20 minutes last year and everyone went inside it still wasn't that crowded. That is an event I can get behind. I don't really go to a lot of beer events because I am not really a fan of being crowded by a million people in a small place. I really am selective with events but since HA is my favorite brewery in Chicago and they are a well run company, it is easy for me to rest assured that they will do a great job of running events. They proved it last year and that is why, for me, this event is a no brainer.

Is it for sure all HA beers? Not all their parties are, though big north last year was.

Yes, you could get smaller pours. I was just too dumb to ask for them. Hence - I ended the night not particularly coherent.

It was last year, so I'd assume it is again, but you never know.

Thanks for the info fellas! $70 was a little much to shell out for an event that has only 3 bullet points of sparse details available online. Once I see the 3F DLD-haters loving Big North, I know that it's not an event for me!

Saving my $70 for the June 30 double release!!

If I recall last year people were a bit uneasy about the $65... and then the tap list got released...

I mean when I'm drunk at darklord day, it is pretty tolerable and treat it as white noise in the background. No offense at all. I just want to hear words and a melody. But it's about the beer at the end of the day guys!

Am I the only guy who can never make words out at any concert? The only way I'm singing along is if I already know the song pretty well

Having my first Beer Hates Astronauts since I discovered I don't like pine-y IPA's and basically want fruit juice.

Major disappointment. Dry pine bomb with some lemon hints.

    Tree House has ruined me.

I love Dark Lord Day with all my heart, but Half Acre party is my favorite beer event of the year.

2 years ago there was a keg of BA Dark Lord. No line. Not sure if they'll be guest drafts this year, but I can't reccomend the party enough.

There were no guest drafts last year. I'd assume it'll be the same this year, but they could surprise.

Throw was the best event I've been to, hands down. BA dark lord, ba hunter with coffee/vanilla, tired hands, food, music, awesome people. Big North last year was great, but Throw was special.

$70 for a Big North ticket? Given their rich lineup of ipas and pales, I think I'll just grab 7 howlers for that and have my own personal Big North week.

Not to derail the thread, but I finally took a pic of BHA before the yeast/sediment at the bottom of the can hits:

(the logo is coming through the back of the glass, so you can tell it's see-through)

    Compare that to this:
Once the yeast hits, the beer gets more opaque/full-feeling, and isn't as bright or as crisp as I like. I've started pouring about half a can at a time, and carefully leave the yeast at the bottom (so as to get the top picture), and that's been making me a lot happier with the beer.
