Family is making a trip from Pa to kennebunkport this summer. We are planning on making stops at treehouse and trillium on the way up and will be driving through Portland on either a Monday or Wednesday to make a stop at Bissle Brothers.

Is there anything close to or in Kennebunkport that is worth checking out? Or anything that is close toe Bissle Brothers that we can hit quickly?

Allisons and a few places in town have bissel. Outside of seeing federal jacks your best bet is to head to Portland.

I'd check out Banded Horn in Biddeford and Barreled Souls in Saco. They are not on the same level as Bissell or Trillium or Tree House but they make some solid stuff and are in between K'port and Portland.

There are quite a few breweries in Portland. Bunker Brewing is the closest to Bissell. And even though it's about 15 minutes away it's worth checking out Industrial Way in Portland. You've got Foundation, Austin Street and Battery Steele all in one complex and down the street Allagash is always doing free pours.

Your trip will be wasted if you don't get a lobster roll from the Clam Shack and pair it with an Allagash White on the water. This is an actual fact, per science.

I know Shipyard isn't beloved around here but I've always had a good time at Federal Jacks. Water views, pool tables, live music on weekends.

I'll just go ahead and assume you know that it's in Maine and you meant "Kennebunkport/MA." A good number of Mainers would really flip their shit over that.

Can't help but smile at the same "typo" ... hopefully the ME survives my reply. Kennebunkport is in Maine to be clear.

Wondering the same, but will be staying in Wells... Any recommendations? I went to a nice bottle shop in a strip mall last time I was there but was a quick in and out. I will be visiting the breweries in Portland and MBC in Freeport

Hidden Cove is in Wells. I've liked some of their sours.

I second Allison's in Kennebunkport. Stopped in there on my way home from Portland. Solid seafood, good selection of Maine beers--Bissell, Austin Street, a few others

Hidden Cove in Wells, and the bottle shop sounds like Tully's. Hidden Cove's head brewer comes from MBC.

We go to Ogunquit at least a couple times a year and had skipped Hidden Cove many times. Always figured "we'll get there next time". Their Summer Ale really hit the spot and we picked up a couple other specialty bottles as well. Was quite a pleasant surprise and there's a decent seafood join just about across the street. The brewery tap room is pretty decent and there was some construction going on so looks like better things to come. People were great.

Wells/Ogunquit are a good base of operations as you probably know. Easy enough to get to Portland or Portsmouth and anywhere in between.

I'd have to disagree about Ogunquit. Quite possibly the worst place in the area to get to, we actually avoid it. Our summer place is in York(live in Portsmouth) and we still skip Ogunquit unless I need something at the surf shop or want some Bissell Brothers at Hooks Chill and Grill.

If you can get off at the Wells exit and backtrack to where you are going it's helpful but its quite out of the way for some spots. Ogunquit will never be able to fix that piece of garbage intersection. Although it's not so bad when the tourists retreat.

But yes, the proximity off season to all is quite nice.

You are 15 minutes from York. York River Landing always has an awesome draft list (http://theyorkriverlanding.com/menu/drinks). They usually have Bissell, MBC, Tributary, etc. Stones Throw is another really good bar in York, right on the ocean, that has a great draft list.

Oh yeah - forgot about that mess - 100% agreed - that intersection is absolutely horrendous and we do tend to go off season. One trip during the summer was enough. Still, in the non-peak times we like the beach and the walkway.

We most recently stayed in York and are actually heading back inland to a lake cottage off the coast for our vacation this year - I better remember where pretty soon since it is less than a month away... Close enough to the coast to get there and ABSOLUTELY close enough to the breweries we like to visit.

    Cheers!

We were up in Kennebunkport this past weekend. First trip there, what a great place to visit. For anyone interested or making a trip soon, here are my beer experiences.

Allison's — centrally located and best tap list in the area. We just had drinks before dinner elsewhere, so I can't comment on the food. Beer prices were very reasonable, my wife and I each did the six beer craft flight. Six 4-ounce tasters for $12.

We had dinner Saturday night at Toroso, restaurant was quite good, and Lunch on draft was a nice surprise.

It seemed like Allagash White was on tap pretty much everywhere we went (not a bad thing!) and MBC seemed to be at many places as well. Only saw Bissell at Allison's.
