Somewhere someone mentioned these threads don't say enough about the how the beers actually taste, so just wanted to post how Battle Creek is incredibly good imo. One of the better dipas I have had in awhile.

I definitely like BC better than Valhalla. I think Valhalla is going through the phase (mine at least) where there's an onion note, but I expect it to pass. I notice that early in a lot of Citra IPAs/DIPAs I've had. BC has a touch of that green/onion note too but I expect it more consistently with Mosaic. Again, just my opinion.

I wish I could do more side by sides with like Veil, but I've come down on the side Veil DIPAs in the past and would expect that now. These beers (Valhalla/BC) have a great haze and feel, but head retention is non existent, no lacing, and Valhalla has a ton of yeast sediment dropping out to the bottom of the glass already. Booze is well hidden. Carb level is a bit low which I think is typical for TC - I get a bit more sweetness coming through in addition to the already low bitterness on them. They're great beers, more in line with what The Answer is doing but I still generally prefer Veil IPAs/DIPAs for RVA hops.

I admit that I don't drink much Answer beer being that I live out of town, but I've been going there when I'm in town ever since they opened and I've never had anything by them that resembles Valhalla/Battle Creek. Those 2 are straight NE DIPAs, The Answer brews I've had have always been closer to a conventional style, although they do have their own style.

In terms of RVA specifically and style (not saying quality necessarily) I think TC's Valhalla and BC are more similar to Answer's Mouth Hug and Hard in the Paint (maybe admittedly the DDH versions) than they are to Veil's Broz Night Out and Step Dad Chaperone. Curious if others agree or if I'm way off base here?

Partly why I wish I could do more blind side by sides with these brewers but I basically never have similar beers from two of them (let alone all three) at home at the same time.

Whew, I'm not sure I agree with that. TDH Hard in the Paint is the only Answer beer I've had so far that I thought was a garbage fire. I really like the Broz series of beers and drank a BC the other evening. It's another great TCB IPA and while you're right that it doesn't have that same ultra fresh and citrusy profile that Veil usually has, it struck me as very in line with the other DIPAs I've had from TCB.

What are the odds of cans being left on Sat?

I personally do not expect a sell out tomorrow. Even if by the chance they do you should be able to get Crowlers on Sat at the Downtown (Foushee) location.

I think the onion note on the first few sips of Valhalla is almost gone. Really enjoying both of last Friday's beers. I happened to stop in on a whim during the first battle creek release when I was in town for KCM and was incredibly impressed. Glad they are keeping it up!

I'm still getting a pretty strong onion note from Battle Creek and Valhalla (especially Battle Creek). I'm not enjoying those 2 as much as Green Dreams b2.

I had my 2nd BC 6 days after release and picked up that as well. Was definitely different than it was on release day when I cracked my first can. Will probably open another can tonight so we'll see.

Yeah I agree, I tried it on draft before I bought cans and did not get that note, I would not have bought cans if I did. Its not bad by any means, a lot of DIPAs that people love have that same note, I just don't personally like it.

Not more than 20 people at most. you will be fine for this release, there probably won't be any real line.

Any updates on if the oniony taste is fading from battle creek?

Got around to opening another one tonight. It's there but not enough to make or a less than very good beer. More on the nose than taste. If @beernuts had not brought it up then I would not have thought much of it.

Just finsihed a Battle Creek and I didn't get any onion. Triple Crossing is really killing it and staying somewhat under the radar.
