I work until late most nights so I haven't been able to get over there, but as your neighbor (I'm about a block and a half away) I can't wait!

Visiting for the first time and I'm digging it. Love the decor and the soundtrack is all of my favorite hip hop from my high school and middle school days.

Oh yeah, great beer too. Looking forward to spending a lot of time here.

Also want to say the service was on point, better than a lot of places that have been open years. I manage a business here in town so I like to think I have a decent perspective on this. Well done, you folks hit the ground sprinting.

Unfortunately leaving the country next weekend and won't be able to make it up from Seattle, but definitely planning a trip up in a few weeks. Congrats on opening, looking forward to visiting!

    From this press release: http://www.taptrail.com/melvin-brewing-opening-details/

seems kid friendly. Not sure about dogs.

(sarcastic, humorously intended comment) I hope they have enough double-wide stroller parking available.

(back to serious thoughts) This place is going to be insanely popular with neighborhood families. And, it is located is a single family-housing dense neighborhood. In addition to automatically becoming Bhams "signature destination brewery" (easy on/off I-5 for travelers from Van-Sea), due to their national hype, I can see (some) folks stopping here, and thinking they've visited town. I hope Melvin doesn't detract from what the other breweries in town have worked hard to build.

    Jackson>Alpine>Bham>SandyEgo>? Links in chains.

Looking forward to seeing what they actually brew here.

I don't think that will be an issue, it will be one of many stops for people. On another note, fresh Melvin yay!

Well, not for a while yet. The press release said that it would be towards the end of the year before they got the system up.

So, as I've been around town the last few days, I've overheard lots of chatter about Melvin. People seem to love the room and service, but there is definitely some sticker shock at the pricing. I never go to a new place until they've been open 10-14 days (give em a chance to get their feet under 'em), but look forward to hitting them up. A thing I like is that everything seems to come in a 12oz tulip. IMHO, the perfect size and glass.

Love that Bellingham sticker shock never goes away. Town is forever stuck 5-10 years in the past.

12oz ImpStout $9. Unless it's one of that particular days "happy hour" beers. Again, haven't been in yet (hoping for this weekend), so this is all hearsay. But, when most of my friends have been in, and when I hear people talking, and the first comment is always about their prices......

Bellingham isn't the tourist, movie star get-away town that Jackson is. It's also not Sandy Ego. People who are comfortable with that pricing, tend to hang in Vancouver (half-hour, depending on the border) or Seattle (1-2 hours, depending on destination and traffic). There's money in town, but it tends to be quiet money. There are folks I know, that have a net worth in the multiples of millions, and they are questioning why they they should pay $9 for a 12oz pour, when they can buy a growler (64oz) at at least 2 different breweries of a 10ish ABV stout for the same price.

    Shrug.

We people are a funny species. Things will sort out over time, and, prices never go down. The days of a WWU student drinking $3 pints of BB Scotch at the Up&Up, and waking up hungover, are gone. Long gone. The new modern world is what it is, and we adapt. If we craft lovers have decided we're going to drink less, but better, bars and breweries have to price accordingly.

Shrug. So many shrugs. I have thoughts, but no answers.

You pretty much have to drive by Wander to get there. And it's only a few blocks from Boundary or Chuckanut.
I think the location might encourage more beer walkabouts.
I was just up there Saturday but didn't realize Melvin was open. Might have to check it out next time.
I do agree that seems like steep pricing unless the $9 is a 'rare' beer. I work in Seattle but rarely have a pint here, cost being part of that.

Well, it is pretty much a straight shot from Wander to Melvin (Halleck Street) it's a mile or so. Menace is just across the street, the only othet beer spot "near" is E Station. Compared to Downtown, where Gruff. BB, Aslan, Structures, The Local, and Wander are all within a block or two of about a mile length.

As point of reference, I once had the chance to measure the distance from BB to E Station with a surveyers wheel. It's 1 mile.

Regarding the stout, I've seen the wholesale price of Ruckus, and I'm not totally surprised at the $9 price tag.
