I'm sure this is on here somewhere but I couldn't find it: Does anyone have any tips for securing a thermowell into the neck of a 6 gallon glass carboy neck? I've had some issues with my plastic bungs but nothing like this sucker. It exits itself upwards immediately. I first tried on a carboy that I'm using for fermenting that was pretty slippery from star san. But also tried it with another carboy (same type) completely dry with the same result. This is the one I bought. Maybe I should go one size smaller?
This could be dangerous. I know a homebrewer who duct taped a too large stopper to prevent it from popping off and it worked. But the airlock also clogged with would-be blowoff and the carboy broke under pressure.
Interesting proposal on using string. I could give that a shot. My blow off tube has been trustworthy enough (not clogs). Thanks for the heads up on potentials issues Vikeman. In the meantime, I need to find a sizing chart and go one size smaller and see if that does the trick. Thanks guys.
