Apologies if the answer to this is hiding somewhere already. I did a few searches and couldn't find anything.

How crazy are these releases typically? I'm planning to go for the Ice Cream Seas release Saturday and expect to be there very early 7 am or so. Are these lineups as rough as I've been told?, etc.

    Thank you

RAR implemented a ticketing system for releases a while ago. Most people who would normally be waiting in like have already made their purchases. They can stop by whenever and get their beer. They to keep a stash of cases for those who didn't buy tickets online, and I don't think it gets too crazy anymore.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure about it because there were only 49-50 cases of the stuff and pre-orders were allowed to buy 1 case pp so that leaves 25 allotments and that scares me a little.

Where did you get that number? I'm almost positive they produced far more than that. And they always hold a certain amount back even before the presale.

Their instagram. There are only 25 cases for walk-ins according to their insta. Lets hope there's more but that's all I'm seeing.

There were far more than 50 cases total, and yes,if you are there by 7, you will get your allotment. More importantly, you will participate in
There were far more than 50 total. I would guess at least 150. For the past handful of releases with tickets, they've sold a bunch of the total online, and reserved 25 cases for walk-ups. Most people are buying tickets these days, meaning the walk-up beer lasts a little bit, and the line isn't as crazy, as early. If you are there by 7, I would be flabbergasted if you missed out on beer.

You'll also get to participate in one of the finest bottle shares in MD.

7am seems a bit excessive, especially since the releases are now ticketed. If you show up and it is dead outside, walk up the street to Black Water Coffee and grab some breakfast to kill some time.

Thanks. I've never gone to a release. I'll definitely grab some coffee, even if I end up coming later. I remember hearing some horror stories about releases so I'm willing to show up as early as it takes. I'm sure the traffic won't do me any favors with Fairfax County getting out this Friday and summer.

At least I have a large album backlog I can jam through.

Coming across the bridge in the am should be fine that early, barring any stupid truck drivers. I would say 8-830 and you're 99% fine. The majority of RAR drinkers go thru the ticket system, and can pick up anytime Sat or Sun. That thins things out considerably. There will be a bunch there at 10 for a bottle share, so be prepared for some unique stuff. And make sure you keep the Mule happy. You'll know who he is...

Thanks for the reply. Am I expected to bring anything to contribute?

Well, the bottle share is sometimes whales only. So unless you have something spectacular, expect to just stand in line. You might get a sip of something, but the line is out on the sidewalk, so no drinking there...

Thanks. Ok, I wasn't sure how that worked.

I think they only did the "whale" share just one time, but the last few times I went, they just let everyone inside and everyone was sharing whatever they had. Pretty chill, no one was actually standing in a line outside. However, most everyone probably also had tickets so theres that.

Thanks. I was thinking about bringing Veil's latest Hornswoggler and a bottle of Mott the Lesser. I'll just bring em along now.

That'll work perfectly. Enjoy! The "Whales" share was a one time thing. Also, there will be line drinking on the street before open. Has been every time I've been there.

Reviving this thread as I'm not sure if anything has changed since last summer. I'm heading down to RAR this weekend for the release. I have already purchased my tickets ahead of time but would like to come to the share and share some Joose and possibly trade some Joose for some JREAMS while there. Anyone know what time the share typically begins/ends?

Every release is slightly different as sometimes they do morning releases, sometimes they have special events, etc. A general rule of thumb is, they typically open at 11 and let everyone inside at 10AM for a massive bottle share from 10-11, but people start bottle sharing in line before 10:00 when they let you inside. Even after they open at 11, they are still pretty chill about people continuing to drink the outside stuff inside. I would say the share starts as early as people start to line up

The past couple of releases they haven't done a share inside. The line starts at the pickup door (garage door around the side) and there is some sharing/trading going on there...

Just a quick heads up, if planning on going to RAR this weekend, and traveling in from the west...the Creek Bridge is closed. Do NOT turn onto Maryland Ave, the first light off the big bridge into Cambridge. Go to the next light, and take a right just past the McDonalds onto Cedar St.
