I'd give it up for my wife if it was getting in the way of our marriage, but I'd likely trade off other activities instead... If drinking was the issue, then that's actually unrelated to homebrewing

It is a hobby and I enjoy it. I like the process and what I do and am proud of what I make, so if I was sick or unable to drink I'd likely still do it, though not as often and give most of it away...

I just had a mental image of losing a limb and replacing it with a mash paddle...

I pretty much stopped brewing from 2000-2009. One beer would give me a headache, young kids, brewing itself wasn't all that much fun, started playing a lot of golf.

The headaches stopped, and the kids got older. I brewed a batch for the older son's high school graduation and started up again. I worked quite a bit on my process and brew days are shorter and there are less problems so brewing is more enjoyable.

I play alot of golf, period. It's pretty much one of the only sports I'm pretty good at still. I really enjoy it, and have 10X's invested in golf than I do in brewing stuff.

But I've noticed I play less, so my monthly dues at the club are less each month, simply so I can brew more. I'd rather fire up the ipod deck outside, and brew some beers and play with the dogs, than go out there and hustle someone for money, or get a quiet, quick 18 in by myself.

I enjoy giving my beer away, more than I do drinking it. Which says alot, because I really enjoy drinking the fruits of my labor. It's like opening a whale each and everytime.

I gave up homebrewing in 1991 when my wife threatened to leave me. Took it up again 3 years ago and found out it was just an empty threat, she's still here:wink:

Doubt I'll stop unless there was a serious health problem, or if it stopped being enjoyable.

A very small, shallow sink that doesn't let me wash and sanitize my equipment properly.

I think my wife would dump me if I gave up home brewing — I think she enjoys the beer at least as much as I do. (Popcorn and a brew or two with movie most nights.) Of course I do the cooking, too, so there's an element of protection there. I suspect I'll never give up either, health permiting.

That's one in a million amigo. If her beer preferences translate to you being able to brew with complete freedom, she's quite the keeper.
