A lot of drinkers wondered if it contained Stilton, being brewed in the middle of its area of production. But it was intended to be drunk with the cheese
Another brewer a few miles away did brew using Stilton whey, it was Belvoir Blue BrewActually it was rather nice.

But Mild Stout is a real historic thing.

Yep, and that completely checks with the entirety of my post. But sure, take one line quite literally 180 degrees out of context; it's fun, and it reinforces my first post in this thread about people ignoring the vast majority of the thread itself, and then rudely announcing their presence with their non sequitur of choice.

That I can certainly get behind.

Porter is a fake term....they're all stouts.

If you said that the opposite way, you'd actually have grounds for a debate. As it is, not so much.

I like them both, to me porters taste like a stout light. There are a bunch of stouts around that are thinner and easier drinking as well. Porters to me are better with a meal than a heavy stout. I like stouts as an after dinner drink, especially a high alcohol imperial or as an eye opener in the morning, like a oatmeal or coffee one.

It is quire amazing that given about 400 years in which these beers have been brewed ,all well documented, that there are still people who cannot grasp that Porter ans Stout are two names for the same thing.
It is possible of course that it is possible to arrive at an apparent conclusion after sampling a few of each.

I've spent four pages saying the same thing, which is why I don't particularly appreciate someone taking a dependent clause from one post entirely out of context and twisting it to seem as though I had said the exact opposite.

To reiterate: more than anyone in this thread, I have been saying the same thing.

Ignorance we can fight. Obstinacy we cannot.

An Imperial Stout is a different style in the first place.

Those are perhaps my least favorite people in the world (the ranks of the "intentionally ignorant" as I like to say).

Sure we can, obstinacy can be met with obstinacy without the burden of thought. I can be effortlessly obstinate, or so I'm told.

As a freethinker, I cannot argue your point. :grinning:

(It also seems we're starting to journey afield of beer, due primarily to my frustration. So: please enjoy a porter or a stout. Mine right now happens to be barrel aged and around 14% ABV. :sunglasses:)

I much prefer stouts to porters.

i find porters to be too thin.

although milk stouts and little stouts are watery and shitty as well.

    RIS and Double Stouts >

It's been a while since I've seen one of these stout vs porter threads. Here's how they typically go. Someone correctly points out that any historical distinction between the two has no practical meaning to modern craft beer. People do not accept this and insist there is a rigid line that separates the two. The thread then goes on and on, sometimes for weeks with no resolution. Let's watch.

Brewing history has the resolution. The doubters that they are one in the same need to check it out.

Did you read my post to this thread where I stated:

"Maybe in 2019 there will be a thread titled “Porter and Stout”?"

Will you be participating in this future thread?:astonished:

    Cheers!
