The dogs are always around so I never drink alone. I can't leave the glass unattended either. One of my dogs has a taste for some good beer.

Being a cask ale enthusiast implies that most of my beer is drunk in pubs. I do have the odd bottle or can at home but it isn't the same.
But going to the pub is a bit like being at a game instead of watching it on TV.Just by being there the whole experience is enhanced.Beer drinking should be much more than just swallowing and tasting.

Totally agree, but there are beers and times when "swallowing and tasting" without the company of others are magical and marvelously refreshing moments of pleasure.

I can drink and think at the same time but can't drink and talk at the same time.

I can't leave any drink unattended because we have a Bengal - part wildcat - that loves to play/lay in water and has been known to splash about in unattended drinks. Asshat.

I really do envy the pub scenes and beer culture you describe in your posts. However, living in Boston, I also always think "Man, 6 beers at a bar around here can easily run more than $50. That shit adds up fast if going out was a regular thing."

So I'm just curious what the pricing is like where you live. Is it cheaper? Or you do you just value the experience enough to spend a fair bit of coin on it?

Eating alone doesn't make you a glutton.

After work during the week I usually drink alone and review, and occasionally share some beers or go out to a bar to try something I can't get in a store. On my days off I usually share beer at least once a week, and spend the other day either sharing/going to a bar with someone else or drinking/reviewing as many beers by myself as I can feel good with. Once in a while I have something else to do.

Define alone ... Am I most often the only one drinking? Yes. Am I "alone"? No, I'm never alone with a 3 year old and 8 month old in the apartment ... In fact I can't remember the last time I had a beer in complete peace ... :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe during football season if I'm watching a game solo, but aside from then, very rarely. My wife & most of my buddies are just as into beer as I am.

If I do drugs alone, does that make me an addict? Serious question.

Although I love having pints at the pub, I don't like other people that much and I like beer a WHOLE lot. You do the math.

Beer here is expensive, tax alone is around $1 a pint.Generally cask costs about double that of the same beer in bottles or cans but of course it is a lot better. Of course pub prices include the surrounds and service. I also go along with the idea that a pleasure shared is a pleasure doubled.

On a sort of related subject, how's the pub scene going these days? Are they still closing at a ridiculous rate or has that calmed down? How'd the legislation regarding tied-houses go?

Both. I drink alone but I am with you guys so that's both. I usually drink while I am cooking. I will pour one on my counter and then get up a good head of steam in my kitchen. I like to share but you guys are the only ones interested so therefore WBAYDN. I also like to read "beer talk" like a magazine and while I do . . . "I drink alone . . . yeaah with nobody else."
