I totally agree with you, but you see art in museums and you hang art in your house because you and others support artist you like. I feel that Equilibrium should be supporting a local artist to do their labels instead of just pumping them out (I could be wrong and maybe they are.) That is all.

I'm not trying to be rude here but I really am struggling on what you don't understand.

The only people that are buying Equilibrium cans are doing so at their brewery. So they traveled to the brewery explicitly to get cans of, say, Photon and MC2. The labels could be pictures of pig vomit and dung beetles, and people will still buy them, because that's what they came for. Not one person on Earth is going to travel to a brewery, see a label they don't like, and then decide to not buy that beer.

And once/if Equilibrium gets distro, their brand is so well known and beer is so coveted that, again, nobody is going to care about what the labels look like. Not one person on Earth is going to go into a beer store for a specific beer, look at a label they don't like, and not buy it.

Beyond being aesthetically pleasing, art only matters if beer sits on shelves. Period. Stop trying to argue around what is an immutable fact.

And I feel they should be supporting a cure for cancer and end to famine. In the end all their customers care about right now is what is in the can, not what is on the can.

There are people out there purchasing $7-$9 Grimm cans with no intention of drinking the liquid inside, opting instead to hoard the cans and prop them around the house as art pieces, simply due to the label design.
Therefore, the complaints about EQ putting little effort into their labels don't surprise me at all. I'm just glad I'm one of the people who could care less.
Full disclosure: I actually do appreciate well done label art and try to peel every sticker or label off beer bottles and cans so I could stick them on my fridge (my BA avatar shows a small segment of it). Label art just isn't a reason for me to pass on a beer that I know is good. Just my 2 cents

I am headed to Equilibrium Saturday because I like the can/bottle art. What's inside doesn't matter, I plan to just trade it and use the ones I keep/drain pour to make some Jeff Koontz shit to hang from my ceiling.

To the point about Finback cans, their art is crappy sorry. LIC is also not great. PoC was nice, otherwise too much noise on the can so the actual artwork is lost at least on me. OH has lots of crappy ones also (sorry cabbage, broccoli, etc repeated on a can is not very creative to me).

Commonality of all of them though (as noted by others), they aren't on shelves and wont be anytime soon. And even if they were, they would stick out like a sore thumb to the other beer snobs who are not able to attend the releases and they would be gone in heartbeat. So those saying it will hurt their marketing are being completely unrealistic. Do we want all beer to taste like Equilibrium/OH/TH/Trillium and have cool can art like Grimm? Yes, but given the choice I would take a black and white can with the word IPA on it filled with tasty stuff over a Julius can filled goose island ipa every day of the week.

Labels aside, took a drive up after work cause i havent been. Was initially disappointed to see only 3 beers on tap, Photon, Hoptimization and Vulgar. And further saddened when they didnt have 32 oz growler caps. However, i was fortunate enough to be offered a free 64 oz growler glass since they were switching to swing top 64s. Still plenty of Photon in the fridge too. Having a photon now and this beer is really great for something thats sat on the shelf for 2 weeks. Albeit its really hard to read Photon on the label .

What, i said "Plenty of photon in the fridge too"? Sat on the shelf was just a term that i used, i meant shelf of the fridge

Their fridge door is beautiful, but the label on the fridge is ugly as hell. It's just a piece of paper that says "Refrigerator" in comic sans font. I almost walked out.

Any line? I'm hoping since you all are so disappointed in the can art this will be a mellow release.

Do I understand your points? I might not, but this is what I get. They should have can art you like better because the can art you like better will help them sell their beer better. There are many artists in need of work, and it would be a good deed to give them the work of designing can art that you like better. Did I get your points? If not, please explain, so we can drop this at last.

Feel free to drop the subject whenever you like. I'll happily respond to any comments that are made here when nobody seems to want to talk about the actual beer. People keep making jokes about the labels affecting sales of the beer, a point that nobody criticizing the labels has made. I don't think it's about doing a "good deed", it's more of a responsibility to support your community. I never said I don't like the art. It's not about what I like, I said it was half assed and impossible to read. Weather someone likes the art is totally subjective, but design flaws are not.

Okay, I am going to drop it, as you split the hairs of design flaws not equaling your opinion about the design, but are instead some objective kind of thing you seem to think exists for judging designs. If the label is hard to read that is a legitimate concern for when the beer is available on the shelf, and that info (plus much more) won't be easily at hand from the employees at the brewery. I would hope that in the far future when their beer is available for distro that the legibility issue will be addressed. And I'm sure it will, since that is something tangible and real that doesn't require opinion to address.

Anyone know if any TABA Blackberry made it into kegs?

Having grown up in Middletown, I think they are doing a heck of a lot to support the community by choosing to open a brewery there.

I also think their labels are just fine, the quality of them never even crossed my mind.

Are you buying it for the labels or the taste?
