My wife and I are in Denver for the week and plan to hit Fort Collins for one full day. Our plans are to hit Odell, NB, and possibly horse and dragon. Any must-hit food spots preferably with a nice taplist? We're traveling via uber/lyft and are open to other brewery/taproom suggestions within reasonable proximity of each other. Cheers!
I like Horse & Dragon....but would not go there over Funkwerks, if you are a saison fan. FW is right near Odell and NB. Also, I am not familiar enough with them to be able to speak first hand, but I think Zwei is a must visit over H&D too if you like lagers. For food with good taplists...Choice City. Tap N Handle is a great beer bar with solid food for a bar.
agree 100%. last few times in the Fort I have just gone straight to, and only to, Funkwerks. I would also add the Mayor of Old Town as a food/beer destination and my favorite Ft C beer bar w/ food, the Colorado Room.
Thank you guys so much for the suggestions, we're at Odell now, just finished the tour and will head over to NB next. We'll do funkwerks after and then grab some lunch. Do you guys have any suggestions for fun touristy non-beer related stuff to do while we're in the area? We'll be heading into boulder tomorrow
Ever since they opened I've never not been to FW when in FoCo. Moving forward I'll add Zwei to that list. Food-wise, I still like Coopersmith's. It's bar food, but it's really good bar food. The beers are good, too. Very classic and old school, but well made.
When I lived in Denver, I'd hit them up once in a while. Grab a pie and some beer and shoot pool for a couple hours. Those were the days!
I'm just jumping in on this thread. Can some folks please send some current recommendations this way for shelf brews? Love juicy hops, and just about anything barrel-aged. My bro-in-law offered to bring back some goodies to MN. Cheers!
Your best bet for juicy hops that are regularly distributed here would be Odd 13 (Superfan and Noob are generally regularly available), New Image (East Coast Transplant), or Liquid Mechanics (Hop Nectar). Other places that do hazy, juicy IPAs but don't regularly distribute would be Weldwerks, Cerebral, and Fiction (might be forgetting a few?). For the barrel-aged stuff Avery is generally a pretty good option. There's also BA Yeti from Great Divide and plenty of barrel-aged sours across the Denver area with Crooked Stave and Black Project probably being some of the best options (though Black Project doesn't distribute).
Well hope you had fun! Not local but we are Melvin! We are nuts. Get some Comrade while your in the area. McGirt aka Head Donkey Melvin Brewing
