Any good taprooms or restaurants with good taplists in the Culver City/Santa Monica area?

    aside from the usually suspects

So my wife and I went to Karl Strauss Anaheim for dinner last night. I was really, really impressed by everything. First of all, Aurora Hoppyalis and Big Barrel DIPA are both utterly fantastic. Talk about "sleepers." I echo someone's sentiment earlier in this thread that if Aurora (and IMO, Big Barrel) were brewed by someone else that they would be clamored over. Also, the food was outstanding. We shared their duck fat pretzel bites and both agreed that we would come back just for those damn things. I had the turkey burger and my wife had a mesquite grilled chicken sandwich. Both were awesome. I highly recommend that place.

That mesquite chicken is killer good. Great choice.

Chiming in to vouch for Aurora Hoppyalis...

I've spent 1-2 months in San Diego for each of the past 3 years and (as far as I can recall ) had never tried a Karl Strauss beer until earlier this June. Hoppyalis is definitely legit.
Bought a single bottle at Trader Joe's then had a couple draft pints a few days later...tasted better than Melvin IPA, Racer 5, Modern Times Booming Rollers during the same session.

Aurora Hoppyalis is great, but I always worry about buying a six pack because I'm unsure of the freshness. There's no date i can see on the box or bottle.

Question on the growler fills: Does the Anaheim location have a 32oz growler option? I know that they will fill unmarked or covered 32oz growlers, but I don't own one. Would rather purchase one from them, and 64oz is too much for me to finish in one sitting, obviously.

Not sure on the 32oz fills. Maybe someone else here might know. Or you can always call them.

First Class Pizza in Irvine has a mini Abnormal tap takeover with 4 IPAs on, looks like Citra Showers newly added as well

If one of them is OldMoney, I recommend getting it. Tastes pretty damn good.

Was just there earlier for a fill. Took a 32oz and a 64oz growler. Turns out that the Friday growler special is only on 64oz fills. $8 for 64oz, but $9 for 32oz of the same beer. Additionally, they only sell 64oz growlers there.

Went to Heroes & Legends Bar and Grill in Lake Forest yesterday. Why? I'm still asking myself that. Oh yes, because it was a last minute get together with my bro-in-law and his family who lives not far from there. So this place was packed > 530-6pm. Maybe happy hour? While waiting for them to show up I asked for a couple of tasters of some IPAs I haven't had before. No. You have to go to the bar and ask for them there and it was 2 taster limit. I wanted to try 3. So I had to make the missus go up and ask for the 3rd. Actually since it was 2 limit per person I added another taster > 4 total now. Why did I asked for a taster of the Boot 9th anniversary? It reminded me of KnuckleSandwich. Crap. Sweet crap. After ordering a Mikkeler Windy Hill Ne IPA the bro-in-laws fam showed up. They order a large curly fries whatever it's called and also nachos crap. And both were beyond terrible. I didn't see anything on the menu I felt like eating so I just ordered a freakin' patty melt. Terrible. Ate half of a half. Had another pint > Drakes Red Denog. That was okay. Maybe a little bit better than the Mikkeller. Both were $9 a pour. Funk me. I felt like I was in a bad Twilight Zone episode. I need me a BTs fix after that.

For those who frequented/still frequent the UCI Anthill Pub, their last day is 7/26. Unfortunately the university isn't renewing their contract, a shame since you could always count on them having PtE, Blind pig, and other solid offerings at a reasonable prices. You can check their FB for more info since they have shortened summer hours, but i think they keep taphunter pretty accurate, for those who want to pay their respects this month

One of the original great craft beer bars in Orange County. I sincerely hope it's not replaced with a Golden Road or St. Archer pub.

Speaking of ... what is OC's "original beer bar"??? I'm going with Goathill - I remember drinking pitchers of Anchor Porter back in 1990 at the Goat - still LOVE that place for sentimental reasons
