You know you have a NEIPA addiction when you start pouring the bottom sediment of non-NEIPAs into it's own glass just to make it hazy....

I usually just pour the whole can into a glass without thinking too much about it. Only exceptions now are probably BHA and Focal Banger. I always figured if it was in the can, it should be in my glass!

Not true. Many beers are ruined by the sediment.

I don't doubt it, just haven't run into many myself. BHA isn't really an issue of sediment per se, anyway.

I'm really enjoying Plane Wave. Copper, semi-opaque in appearance. Not a huge aroma, but definite pronounced notes of orange and other citrus. More body than a typical HA IPA, not as dry either. I pick up more orange and nectarine flavors with some peach juiciness. Nice, subtle hop bite on the backend. One of HA guys told me they utilized a salt on the hot side of the process to round out the flavors and linger on the tongue but not enough to taste. I like it a lot. I typically only buy 1 or 2 4-packs of their brewery only releases because that's really all I can drink before diminishing returns, but I wish I would've grabbed the full allotment of this.

Deep Space (of the canned variety) is drinking damn tasty. Kicking ass @ 10% but a nice replacement for Navaja. See you in December, Navaja. Picked up some Freedom of '78 cans as well. And good news for fans of Fluorescent, it will return later this year it seems. Looking forward to revisiting its Nelson goodness. Cheers all.

What is the reason they don't distribute 12oz cans instead of 16oz ???
I know I'm not the only one that hates 16oz; especially for people like myself who can only drink small amounts for health reasons, 2 or 3 cans adds up to a decent amount more.
As well as the beer gets stale after being opened for a whole 16oz...

Instead of drinking 3 12 oz cans, drink 2 16oz cans? Anyway, have HA even packaged a 12 oz can? My understanding is no, so your query seems a more general one. As far as generally speaking, 16 oz cans are de rigueur. Hell, I'd rather have a 16 oz can than a bomber so cheers to HA in this regard. And don't mention 12 oz cans to the NEIPA crowd, they'll laugh in your face. And ignore your beer at the same time, too.

No, they haven't ever packaged 12oz cans yet, but no reason they can't switch. I've seen other breweries make the switch.

There is a clear taste difference after having the beer open for 15-20 minutes vs. when you first open it. This is the beer getting stale. Ideally 8oz cans would be available, but 12oz is the reasonable option today.
And simply saying "at least it's not bombers" is not a good answer.

Breweries also are charging a premium for these 16oz cans. Why??

For me, 16oz is just the right size. Rarely see people inquiring or asking for 12oz cans as opposed to 16oz. And if I saw beer in 8oz cans, I'd pass.

As far as why people are doing 16 as opposed to 12, not really sure there's a solid answer out there other than maybe 16oz is what most people are looking for. That's just a guess.

One thought: 16oz's work for one person OR 2.

I don't mind taking down a can myself (maybe I drink too fast, but I've never had noticeable flavor drop off) and I also think 8oz is enough to split and still really get to know the flavor profile.

I mean, for selfish reasons, I would much rather have 12oz cans. That's 8 more ounces per package for the same price, or almost a whole can.

However, I'm perfectly fine with the 16oz package.

There's no real reason they do it. They used to bottle in 12oz bottles when they first opened, and were one of the first to move to cans. The 16oz cans really helped them stand out, as there was no one else doing it at the time.

Considering 16oz seems to be moving toward the industry standard for new breweries, the only way I see them going to 12oz cans is if they start to offer Daisy Cutter in 12 or 15 packs, like Revolution, Founders, or Lagunitas. Extremely unlikely you ever see them go to 12oz six packs.

I would much prefer 12 ounce cans as well after a weekend of drinking a bunch, particularly outdoor drinking when it's warm out. I was drinking M-43, Boxer, Lazurite and Lizard King mostly, and I think the Lazurite hit the spot the most. It was just easier to drink it down in a good amount of time. I really enjoy the other beers, but by the last few sips, it just wasn't hitting the spot anymore. It's not a huge deal for me, but if I had to vote...it'd be for 12 ounce cans.

I cracked a Lazurite last night with dinner, it just cut through all the flavors of the food and complemented the meal perfectly. Love that Warpigs is consumer forward enough to use 12oz cans.

The only reason brewers are using 16 oz cans is for profit margins. They can sell the consumers 64oz of beer instead of the standard 72oz from a 6 pack of 12 oz cans for the same price. The consumer gets screwed-we are the one losing. It's like shrinking cereal box contents- you aren't getting what you pay for anymore. You crack 4 beers and you are out of beer with the 16oz'ers. If people wanted 16oz cans more than 12oz cans you wouldn't see Bud or Miller with their vast market research capabilities continuing to sell the majority of their product via 6 packs of 12oz cans/bottles....

I was seconds away from responding to this with actual facts and thought but you're just trolling, right? Like you know why some breweries package in 16oz 4packs you're just pretending like you don't.
