I checked the tracking number of a shipment and found this. I am sort of a new trader and my first impulse is that I had a damaged box and maybe a leak. What do you guys think?

It's not a good thing.... Too early to tell if it's a bad thing though.

    EDIT:

I would also play the odds..... Is the box "To" you or "From" you? If it's to you, is the other person a new trader? if it's from you, did you pack it in a way that it could survive a tumble down a half-flight of stairs?

Yeah...that's not good. Probably a broken bottle. Hopefully the rest that was in the box is sent back to you instead of them confiscating it.

Is the box coming to you or did you send it? Have the recipient call the FedEx facility. Many times they will allow you to come pick it up as is. Otherwise they could just return it back to the sender.

I shipped it. I just messaged the recipient telling them just that. I also offered to replace and add in a few more extras for their time.

this is a good reason to bag up your bottles or double box and bag the interior box

I think it's much more complex than that. To know what happened to the box, you have to know what the beer was man. Now the beer was brewed by a brewer who had a one-legged-bitch mother and he was always ashamed of this. Then he got adopted by this man, Tito Libowitz. He was a part time gun smuggler and hard-apple-cider brewer, and he brewed the beer, and the beer was good. It was damn good. Then he put his beer in a homebrew contest for the fight of his life...his brother's homebrew, Nibbles. And the brewer said no way man, I can't brew better than nibbles, he's my brother. But he competed anyway and the beer killed Nibbles beer. Then he said, that's it man and he stopped brewing beer, and started smoking crack, and one day he just went berserk and collapsed and his heart no longer beat. Wow.......

I wish all the times you guys have bottles break in transit you'd post pictures of how you packs so n00bs could learn how not to do it.

I've had this happen before, and it totally depends on the facility that it's currently residing in. I was lucky enough to have them repack the unbroken bottles and deliver them to the target, but I lost a few and a glass in the process. Sometimes they'll send back to you, sometimes they'll chuck everything in the trash.

Best case scenario, nothing is broken, and the shipping label tore off, and they're replacing it and continuing it on its way. It always pays to either write the tracking number on the outside of the box, or print out another copy of the label and put on the inside of the box, right on top.

I always print another shipping label and place right inside so if they open it, the first thing they see is the label. Hopefully prevents nosy employees from digging through the package. This has actually saved me on one occasion.

I am going to start printing a secondary label to tuck inside, I also write the tracking number on the box and always tape the crap out of the tops and bottoms.

That sucks man...but at least you are getting the box back.

EDIT: Awesome, they are just letting it go on through despite knowing it is beer?

Most delivery exceptions are broken bottles. Some facilities will send it on, others will return it. I'd give them a phone call and see what happened.

I just got off the phone with Fedex, they say since it was at the local shipping center they will let the recipient pick it up today. 2 bottles broke and one can dented.

New trader sends out 26lbs box and it breaks. Can't explain that.
