Riddle me this batman. A SUPER fresh Commodore Perry from Great Lakes has the hop flavor of a ton of other IPAs, yet its shelf beer everywhere.

I thought that Seven Seas DIPA from Dry Dock was pretty tasty. Plenty of hops, but not all in your face.

I'm not sure that's what you'd typically refer to as a "riddle" (you basically gave us the answer before the sentence was completed).

Should've worked out something like this: "What IPA has the hop flavor of a ton of other IPAs (when super fresh), yet is a shelf beer everywhere?"

I'm not sure that many would have immediately sprung to Commodore Perry as the answer, but for what it's worth Great Lakes only makes it to 14 of the 50 states in the US.

Hardly a "shelf beer everywhere" type of deal.

Callmemickey makes an excellent point, though. The rarest of IPAs are the ones that are local to any given city/town far out of your own reach.

There should be no rare IPA's they should all be consumed. You can't save them, you can't age them drink em. Some may be harder to get up front, I couldn't get Exponential Hoppiness from Alpine, but maybe next year. But that's of no real concern there's a dozen or more truly great IPA's out there. Wish there were more better IPA's on;y vailble locally, Jade from Foothills fits the bill when it's on tap, at the brewery only.

Sounds like the OP needs to take a beer-cation.

Just go to the PNW, or Michigan, or SOCAL, or any other "Brewery-heavy" areas, and hit up as many breweries as possible.

Or you could be at GABF right now.....

A beer vacation will give you some serious tasting time/variety

A fresh local IPA will almost always be better than a rare old IPA.
